1. You will own quality checking for everything that enters and leaves the factory, and keep a clear written record of it.
2. Incoming material: Inspect all raw material (wire, rod, sheet, coil) and every lot of parts received from job-work and outside vendors before it is accepted.
3. MTC verification: Check supplier Material Test Certificates against the PO and drawing — grade, chemical composition, mechanical properties and heat/batch number.
4. In-process checks: Approve the first piece on press, bending and other machines, and re-check during the shift to catch problems early
5. Plating inspection: Inspect every lot returning from zinc plating and hot-dip galvanising; accept it, reject it or send it back for rework.
6. Outgoing inspection: Check finished goods against the drawing and order before dispatch — dimensions, finish, quantity, packing and labelling.
7. Rejections: Tag and segregate rejected material, record the reason, inform the factory manager and vendor, and follow up until it is resolved.
8. Customer documents: Support inspection reports and MTCs that go with export shipments
What you must know-
1.
The job is done with a vernier caliper and a trained eye — no lab, CMM or instrument heavy work.
2. Drawings: Read engineering drawings confidently — dimensions, tolerances, thread callouts (metric and inch) and finish notes.
3. Dimensional checking: Accurate, fast use of a vernier caliper on lengths, diameters, thicknesses, hole positions and threads.
4. Zinc plating: Tell good from bad — coverage, passivation colour (explicit/blue, yellow, black), white rust, patchy or dull areas, peeling, blistering, burnt edges
5. Hot-dip galvanising: Tell good from bad — bare spots, lumps and drips, ash or dross inclusions, rough or uneven coating, zinc-filled threads, nut-bolt fit after galvanising.
6. MTCs: Read a mill certificate and spot a mismatch — wrong grade, chemistry or tensile/hardness values out of spec, heat number not matching the material.
7. Fastener basics: Bolts, nuts, anchors, threaded rods and sheet-metal parts; common grades (MS 4.6 / 8.8, SS 304 / 316) and IS / DIN / ASTM standards
8. Reporting: Neat, honest records and basic Excel for daily reports.
