Job SummaryThe Structural Engineer in an EPC environment for hospital and healthcare construction is responsible for the end-to-end conceptualization, design, analysis, value engineering, and field supervision of complex health facilities. Because hospitals house heavy diagnostic machinery (e.g., MRI, CT scanners), require vibration-sensitive zones, demand strict seismic/wind safety, and integrate dense mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) layouts, the structural engineer must ensure high redundancy, code compliance, and seamless multi-disciplinary coordination.Key Responsibilities1. - Analysis

- Structural Framing &
- Foundation Design:

Design reinforced concrete (RCC), post-tensioned, or structural steel framing systems tailored to multi-story hospital layouts, long-span operation theaters, and heavy-load diagnostic areas. [1, 2]

- Load Calculations: Compute gravity, wind, seismic (lateral), thermal, and dynamic loads specifically accounting for heavy medical equipment (MRI, linear accelerators, chillers, generators). [1, 2]

- Vibration &

- Deflection Control:

Analyze and mitigate floor vibrations to protect sensitive medical instruments and patient comfort.

- BIM & 3D Modeling: Oversee or develop detailed 3D structural models and coordinate clash detection with architectural and MEP/HVAC services using Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows. [1, 2]

- Estimation:

Prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQ), technical specifications, cost estimates, and structural packages for client bids and subcontractor procurement.

- Vendor &

- Material Approval:

Review shop drawings, bar bending schedules (BBS), and material test reports (concrete mix designs, structural steel grades) submitted by vendors and contractors.

- Value Engineering: Optimize structural designs to lower material waste, control project budgets, and shorten construction schedules without compromising hospital safety ratings. [1, 2]

- Quality Control

- Construction Supervision: Conduct periodic or resident site inspections to verify that foundation casting, rebar placement, slab pouring, and erection match approved structural drawings. [1, 2]

- Non-Conformance &
- Issue Resolution:

Address site queries, resolve structural bottlenecks, and issue field change notices (FCNs) or site instruction bulletins.
