Job Summary The Senior Design Engineer – Electrical will be responsible for planning, designing, reviewing, and coordinating electrical systems for MEP projects, including commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects. The role involves preparing electrical design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and BOQs while ensuring compliance with applicable electrical standards, project requirements, safety regulations, and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design and Engineering

- Prepare and review electrical design drawings, layouts, and technical documents for MEP projects.
- Design electrical power distribution systems, including HT/LT systems, transformers, HT/LT panels, and distribution boards.
- Prepare lighting layouts, power layouts, emergency lighting layouts, and small power distribution drawings.
- Design and review cable sizing, cable tray routing, voltage drop, short-circuit, load calculations, and electrical load schedules.
- Prepare single-line diagrams (SLDs), schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and electrical riser diagrams.
- Design earthing and lightning protection systems in accordance with applicable standards.
- Coordinate the design of UPS systems, DG sets, bus ducts, capacitor banks, and other electrical equipment.
- Review and incorporate requirements for fire alarm, ELV, CCTV, access control, and other associated systems, as applicable to the project.





Drawings and Documentation

- Prepare electrical drawings using AutoCAD and review drawings developed by the design team.
- Develop and review design calculations, technical specifications, material take-offs, and BOQs.
- Prepare tender drawings, design submissions, shop drawings, and as-built drawings.
- Ensure drawings and documents are accurate, coordinated, and issued within the project schedule.
- Review vendor drawings, technical submittals, and equipment specifications.

MEP Coordination

- Coordinate with mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, fire-fighting, civil, and architectural teams to resolve design and site interface issues.
- Conduct design reviews and identify clashes between electrical services and other building services.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and project execution teams.
- Provide technical support to site teams for design clarifications, revisions, and execution-related issues.
- Attend design coordination meetings and implement approved changes.

Standards and Quality Compliance

- Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable IS, IEC, NBC, CEA regulations, local electrical authority requirements, and project specifications.
- Verify design quality, technical accuracy, safety, reliability, and energy efficiency.




- Review drawings and calculations before submission to clients and consultants.
- Maintain proper documentation and revision control for all design deliverables.
- Support design audits, technical inspections, and quality assurance activities.

Educational Qualifications

- B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering may be considered with substantial relevant experience.

Required Technical Skills

- Proficiency in AutoCAD and electrical design software.
- Working knowledge of electrical load calculations, cable sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit calculations, and protection coordination.
- Knowledge of HT/LT distribution systems, transformers, DG sets, UPS systems, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection.
- Familiarity with electrical BOQs, material take-offs, technical specifications, and tender documentation.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and safety requirements.
- Familiarity with Revit MEP, BIM coordination, ETAP, or similar engineering tools will be an added advantage.

Experience and Competencies

- 5–8 years of relevant experience in electrical design for MEP, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
- Robust analytical, technical problem-solving, and coordination skills.
- Ability to independently handle electrical design packages and review design deliverables.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
