Contract Duration : 1 year contract (extendable) on 3rd party payroll
Location: Bengaluru
Department: Packaging
Key Responsibilities
1. Structural Packaging Design & Material Expertise
- Design, prototype, and validate structural packaging concepts with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on structural design experience.
- Apply deep expertise in material science to optimize corrugated boards (flute types, bursting strength, ECT) and protective foams (EPE, EP, PU) to balance product security and cost efficiency.
- Develop physical and digital dielines, specifications, and testing protocols (e.g., ISTA, ASTM) to mock up and stress-test packaging resilience.
1. Distribution Centre (DC) Troubleshooting & Damage Remediation
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for DC teams to manage and resolve in office packaging and receiving challenges.
- Standardise and execute clear standard operating procedures (SOPs) on immediate handling when a damaged box or pallet is received at the DC.
- Inspect incoming freight anomalies to diagnose whether the failure stems from structural design, material degradation, handling, or transit shifting.
1. Supplier Quality & Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Partner closely with Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) and external suppliers to trace damages back to manufacturing, raw materials, or vendor-loading practices.
- Lead formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa),
or 8D reports when systematic packaging defects arise.
- Audit supplier manufacturing sites to ensure compliance with material specifications and consistency in packaging assembly.
1. Total Supply Chain & Transportation Optimization
- Analyze the end-to-end supply chain to optimize palletization, container utilization, and overall freight efficiency.
- Address and mitigate complex transportation and Transport Management System (TMS) / TPMS challenges that influence package stress (e.g., multi-stop handling, vibration, environmental shifts, carrier limitations).
- Engineer and deploy long-term, sustainable solutions to eradicate chronic in-house handling, cross-dock, and final-mile labelling or package damages.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Experience Matrix: Strictly 4 to 7 years of core industrial experience, with at least 2+ years focused specifically on packaging design.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in packaging CAD software (e.g., Creo, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Cape Pack / TOPS for pallet load optimization).
- Material Science: Advanced understanding of paperboard, corrugated components, testing standards, and engineered cushioning (foam inserts, molded pulp).
- Operations Know-how: Familiarity with modern warehouse setups, cross-docking operations, and logistics platforms (WMS, TMS).
- Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional investigations, handle vendor negotiations regarding quality, and execute CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).
