About the Role

We are looking for native Malayalam speakers to help train and improve AI models' ability to understand real-world Malayalam documents. You will annotate PDF pages by identifying document structures, labeling text and visual elements, mapping reading order, and accurately transcribing text in Malayalam script.

The project focuses on complex documents, including newspapers, textbooks, examination papers, handwritten forms, tables, diagrams, and mixed-script layouts. Strong language proficiency, attention to detail, and character-level transcription accuracy are essential.

Key Responsibilities

- Review assigned PDF pages for Malayalam content, legibility, and suitability for annotation.
- Identify, classify, and mark document regions, including titles, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, captions, formulas, questions, and answer fields.
- Assign accurate reading-order indices, including for multi-column layouts.
- Link related document elements using parent component identifiers.
- Transcribe printed and handwritten Malayalam text faithfully in the original script.
- Maintain character-level accuracy, including vowel signs, diacritics, conjunct characters, punctuation, and numerals.
- Record page metadata, including language, document type, source, dimensions, and relevant content flags.
- Flag illegible, unsuitable,



or sensitive pages according to project guidelines.
- Review and quality-check annotations completed by other Malayalam annotators as needed.

Requirements
- Native or near-native Malayalam proficiency with excellent command of the Malayalam script.
- Solid attention to detail and commitment to transcription accuracy.
- Experience in transcription, proofreading, translation, localization, annotation, subtitling, journalism, or regional-language data review.
- Ability to interpret complex layouts, including multi-column newspapers, tables, examination papers, and handwritten documents.
- Ability to follow detailed annotation guidelines and apply labeling standards consistently.
- Reliable internet access and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with AI training data, data labeling, document annotation, or OCR correction.
- Familiarity with Malayalam Unicode, typing methods, and script normalization.
- Experience in document digitization, typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or linguistic quality assurance.
- Experience reviewing annotations or performing language-quality checks.

What Success Looks Like
- Accurate identification and bounding of all meaningful document regions.
- Correct component labels, relationships, and reading order.
- Faithful Malayalam transcription with minimal character-level errors.
- Consistent adherence to project guidelines and successful quality reviews.
- Early identification of unsuitable or illegible pages.
