Duties and Responsibilities of a Junior Consultant – Gynaecology & Obstetrics (OBG)

- Patient Care: Examine and assess antenatal, postnatal, gynaecological, and obstetric patients under the supervision of the senior consultant.

- Outpatient Services (OPD): Conduct consultations, take medical and obstetric histories, perform clinical examinations, and advise appropriate investigations and treatment.

- Inpatient Management: Monitor admitted patients, review progress, maintain clinical records, and coordinate treatment plans.

- Labour Room Duties: Monitor labour progress, assess maternal and fetal well-being, identify high-risk pregnancies, and assist in conducting normal deliveries.

- Surgical Assistance: Assist senior consultants in Caesarean sections and other obstetric and gynaecological procedures, according to competence and hospital protocols.

- Emergency Management: Recognise and promptly escalate obstetric and gynaecological emergencies, including postpartum haemorrhage, eclampsia, ectopic pregnancy, and fetal distress.

- Postoperative and Postnatal Care: Monitor patients after delivery and surgery, assess recovery, manage routine postoperative care, and identify complications.

- Diagnostic Procedures:



Perform or assist with obstetric ultrasound and other diagnostic procedures when appropriately trained and credentialed.

- Documentation: Maintain accurate patient histories, examination findings, investigation reports, treatment orders, consent forms, delivery notes, discharge summaries, and medical records.

- Patient Counselling: Provide counselling regarding antenatal care, breastfeeding, family planning, contraception, reproductive health, and discharge instructions.

- Coordination: Work collaboratively with nursing staff, anaesthetists, paediatricians, laboratory personnel, and other departments to ensure effective patient care.

- Infection Control: Follow hospital protocols for sterilisation, biomedical waste management, patient safety, and infection prevention.

- Duty and Handover: Participate in ward rounds, emergency duties, labour room coverage, and shift handovers as assigned.

- Qualified Conduct: Maintain patient confidentiality, ethical standards, and compliance with hospital policies and applicable clinical guidelines.

Pay: ₹100,000.00 - ₹120,000.00 per month
