- Senior Civil Site Supervisor

We are hiring a Senior Civil Site Supervisor to run all civil work on site during a major plant expansion at Sipajhar, Assam. Candidates with prior ethanol, distillery, ENA or sugar industry experience will be preffered

Position objective The Senior Civil Site Supervisor will be the single point of accountability for all civil construction on site during the expansion and new projects . Every civil activity, from foundations and RCC structures to roads, drains and plant buildings, will be planned, supervised and reported under this role.

The role suits a hands-on leader who has delivered civil works inside an operating ethanol, distillery, ENA or sugar plant. He must lead a team of civil engineers, control material and cost, and keep progress, quality and safety on schedule.

Key responsibilities

Site supervision and execution

- Supervise all civil work on site: excavation, PCC and RCC foundations, structural and fabrication-support civil work, tank and silo foundations, plant buildings, roads, drains, boundary and utility civil work.
- Read and interpret drawings, BOQs and specifications, and ensure work is done exactly as per design.
- Prepare and follow a daily, weekly and monthly work plan; remove site bottlenecks and keep each activity on schedule.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, piping and process teams so civil work is ready before equipment erection.

Team leadership

- Lead civil engineers, supervisors, foremen and contractor teams; allot work, set targets and review output every day.
- Guide and mentor engineers on measurement, site records and quality practice.
- Handle contractor and labour issues firmly and fairly, and escalate delays or risks early.

Material, quantity and cost control





- Calculate material requirements accurately for cement, steel, aggregate, sand, bricks, shuttering and other items from drawings and site measurements.
- Track actual material consumption against planned quantities; identify wastage and report variances with reasons.
- Verify contractor measurements and running bills; certify only work actually done at the agreed rates.
- Keep work-wise cost records and flag cost overruns before they occur.

Reporting and documentation

- Submit daily progress reports and a weekly and monthly site report covering progress, manpower, material, cost, delays and next-period plan.
- Maintain measurement books, material reconciliation, pour cards, bar-bending schedules, cube-test records and as-built records.
- Report plan-versus-actual progress to the Project Head with clear figures.

Quality, safety and compliance

- Ensure concrete, steel, shuttering and finishing meet IS codes and approved specifications; arrange tests and inspections.
- Enforce site safety: permit-to-work, work at height, excavation and confined-space rules, PPE and housekeeping.
- Ensure statutory and contractor compliance for civil work on site.

Qualifications and experience (all mandatory)

- Degree in Civil Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech) from a recognised institution.
- At least 15 years of total experience in civil construction work in industrial plants.




- At least 5 years as a Senior Site Supervisor / Site In-charge with civil engineers reporting directly to him.
- Work experience in an ethanol, distillery, ENA or sugar plant. Candidates without this will not be considered.
- Proven ability to calculate material quantities and costs accurately and to prepare site reports independently.
- Experience of handling all civil work on a site under one supervision, including contractors and labour.
- Experience in plant expansion, brownfield or greenfield projects is an added advantage.

Key skills and competencies

- Leadership: commands respect on site, makes quick decisions, builds and develops a team of engineers.
- Technical: RCC and structural work, drawings, BOQ, IS codes, concrete quality, bar-bending schedules, shuttering, surveying and levels.
- Numbers: material estimation, quantity take-off, bill verification, cost tracking and reconciliation.
- Reporting: explicit daily, weekly and monthly reports, with Excel and MS Office; AutoCAD or measurement software is a plus.
- Planning: work scheduling, manpower and contractor planning, and progress tracking against plan.
- Safety and discipline: strict on site safety, quality and documentation.
- Communication: works well with project, production, maintenance and contractor teams; Hindi and English, with Assamese a plus.

Who should not apply

- Candidates with no ethanol, distillery, ENA or sugar plant experience.
- Diploma holders or candidates without a civil engineering degree.
- Candidates who have worked as a supervisor only on small buildings or residential projects, or who have never led civil engineers.
- Candidates with under 15 years of total experience or under 5 years as a senior site supervisor.
