Pod Lead – Civil & Structural Engineering
Engagement Type: Short-Term Contract (4 Weeks)
Compensation: ₹2,19,000 per month (₹2.19 LPM)
Work Schedule: 8 hours per day
Time Zone Requirement: 4 hours of overlap with US Pacific Time (PST)
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Civil or Structural Engineering expert to join our team as a Pod Lead – Civil & Structural Engineering for a short-term, four-week contract.
In this role, you will lead a team of 5–10 technical trainers responsible for developing realistic, terminal-based engineering tasks for Terminal Bench Science. You will review and validate technical tasks, ensure engineering accuracy and reproducibility, evaluate automated grading systems, and mentor trainers to maintain high-quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have advanced technical expertise in civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering, strong programming skills, and experience reviewing complex engineering models, simulations, or computational workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of approximately 5–10 technical trainers.
- Review engineering tasks from start to finish, including problem statements, engineering models, load cases, simulation data, computational environments, reference solutions, and automated tests.
- Validate tasks involving structural analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), earthquake and wind engineering, structural dynamics, geotechnical modeling, hydraulics, hydrology, transportation, and infrastructure systems.
- Ensure tasks reflect realistic engineering workflows and require meaningful, multi-step technical reasoning.
- Verify engineering calculations, units, equilibrium, boundary conditions, load combinations, design codes, numerical stability, convergence, and safety factors.
- Validate computational models, solvers, dependencies, and simulation results for technical accuracy and reproducibility.
- Review automated graders to ensure they correctly assess engineering outputs such as forces, deflections,
structural drift, settlements, factors of safety, flow rates, and overall structural performance.
- Identify technical errors, unrealistic assumptions, incorrect tolerances, and gaps in engineering validation.
- Provide clear feedback to task developers and track revisions through completion.
- Allocate tasks, monitor quality and productivity, and help resolve technical challenges.
- Maintain technical documentation, quality standards, and best practices across task development.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Ph.D., postdoctoral experience, or equivalent advanced technical experience in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, Julia, Fortran, or MATLAB/Octave.
- Proficiency in Linux environments.
- Hands-on expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- Structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA)
- Earthquake engineering and structural dynamics
- Geotechnical engineering and modeling
- Hydraulic or hydrological modeling
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, numerical methods, simulation workflows, and model validation.
- Working knowledge of engineering design standards such as ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, Eurocodes, or Indian Standards (IS codes).
- Experience reviewing complex technical work, engineering simulations, research outputs, or computational models.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify technical inaccuracies and flawed engineering assumptions.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or reviewing the work of technical teams.
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to provide exact technical feedback.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with engineering simulation and analysis tools such as OpenSees/OpenSeesPy, Code_Aster, CalculiX, FEniCS, Gmsh, PyNite, EPANET, SWMM, HEC-RAS, MODFLOW, SUMO, QGIS, or GDAL.
- Familiarity with commercial engineering software such as SAP2000, ETABS, Abaqus, PLAXIS, or STAAD.Pro.
- Experience in nonlinear time-history analysis, performance-based design, reliability analysis, or structural health monitoring.
- Familiarity with Docker, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
- Experience developing or evaluating AI coding agents, terminal-based agents, or LLM-generated engineering solutions.
- Professional engineering licensure, such as PE, SE, CEng, or an equivalent qualification.
- Industry experience involving buildings, bridges, transportation networks, water systems, or major infrastructure projects.
- Previous experience in AI training, technical quality control, benchmark development, or evaluation programs.
