The ideal candidate should possess a strong technical foundation in enterprise application development, microservices, APIs, databases, cloud platforms, and modern engineering practices, combined with proven expertise in program execution, Agile delivery, and cross-functional team leadership.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. End-to-End Technical Delivery
* Own end-to-end delivery of technology initiatives from planning and solution design through development, testing, deployment, and production handover.
* Translate business requirements and strategic priorities into executable delivery plans, milestones, release roadmaps, and measurable outcomes.
* Drive delivery across multiple squads, workstreams, and technology teams while ensuring alignment with agreed scope, timelines, budget, and quality standards.
* Establish clear ownership, delivery commitments, acceptance criteria, and accountability across engineering teams.
* Proactively identify delivery bottlenecks and drive resolution to maintain predictable execution.
* Ensure technical deliverables meet enterprise architecture, security, performance, scalability, and maintainability requirements.
B. Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence
* Work closely with solution architects, engineering leads, product owners, and business stakeholders to validate technical feasibility and delivery estimates.
* Oversee implementation of microservices, API-led integration, event-driven architectures, and enterprise application solutions.
* Drive engineering best practices covering code quality, design reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and release management.
* Ensure appropriate technical design decisions, architectural standards, and reusable components are followed across teams.
* Track technical debt, non-functional requirements, performance risks, and remediation plans.
* Facilitate technical decision-making and escalation management for complex engineering challenges.
C. Agile Delivery & Execution Governance
* Drive Agile delivery practices, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and release planning.
* Track delivery metrics such as sprint predictability, velocity trends, throughput, cycle time, defect leakage, and release success rate.
* Establish governance mechanisms for milestones, dependencies, risks, issues, assumptions, and decisions.
* Maintain delivery dashboards, executive reports, RAID logs, action trackers, and management-level status updates.
* Ensure timely escalation of delivery risks with clear impact assessments and mitigation plans.
* Continuously improve delivery processes to increase engineering productivity and reduce avoidable delays.
D. Stakeholder & Program Management
* Act as the primary delivery interface between business stakeholders, product management, architects, engineering teams, infrastructure, security, and operations.
* Communicate delivery progress, risks, dependencies, decisions, and corrective actions to senior leadership.
* Manage scope changes, competing priorities, delivery commitments, and stakeholder expectations.
* Coordinate cross-team dependencies and resolve conflicts affecting program outcomes.
* Drive alignment across business, technology, architecture, testing, DevOps, and production support teams.
* Ensure transparency, accountability, and timely decision-making across all stakeholders.
E. Resource, Budget & Vendor Management
* Plan and manage engineering capacity, resource allocation, utilisation, and delivery commitments.
* Develop delivery estimates, resource forecasts, and budget plans in coordination with program leadership.
* Monitor project expenditure, vendor performance, and resource productivity.
* Identify skill gaps and work with leadership to address staffing, capability, and succession requirements.
* Manage vendor deliverables, contractual commitments, service levels, and quality expectations where applicable.
F. Quality, Risk & Production Readiness
* Ensure effective test strategies covering functional, integration, regression, performance, security, and resilience testing.
* Drive defect prevention, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions.
* Ensure operational readiness, deployment planning, rollback strategies, disaster recovery considerations, and support handover.
* Track production incidents, recurring defects, service stability, and post-release performance.
* Ensure compliance with enterprise security policies, audit requirements, data protection standards, and applicable banking regulations.
G. People Leadership & Continuous Improvement
* Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers, technical leads, scrum masters, and delivery teams as applicable.
* Build a culture of ownership, collaboration, engineering discipline, and continuous improvement.
* Coach teams on estimation, dependency management, risk identification, and delivery predictability.
* Promote automation, reusable engineering practices, and standardised delivery frameworks.
* Drive lessons-learned reviews and implement improvements based on delivery performance and stakeholder feedback.
3. Required Technical Skills
* Robust understanding of enterprise application architecture, microservices, REST APIs, and distributed systems.
* Experience with Java/Spring Boot or equivalent enterprise backend technologies.
* Working knowledge of relational databases, NoSQL databases, caching, and event streaming technologies such as Kafka.
* Understanding of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
* Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, automated testing,
and DevOps practices.
* Experience with Agile/Scrum, Jira, Confluence, and delivery reporting tools.
* Understanding of application security, performance engineering, observability, resiliency, and production support.
* Ability to challenge technical estimates, evaluate implementation risks, and engage effectively with architects and engineering leads.
4. Qualifications & Experience
* 10+ years of overall experience in software engineering, technical project management, program delivery, or technology leadership.
* Demonstrated experience managing complex technology delivery across multiple teams or workstreams.
* Proven track record of delivering enterprise technology initiatives within agreed timelines, scope, budget, and quality parameters.
* Strong experience in Agile delivery, program governance, stakeholder management, risk mitigation, and dependency coordination.
* Experience managing engineering capacity, delivery plans, release milestones, and executive reporting.
* Experience in banking, financial services, payments, capital markets, or other regulated environments is preferred.
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
