Company Description:

We see ourselves as a bunch of crazy maniacs who refuse to understand "It Can Not Happen". People know us for building the most awesome e-bikes (electric bicycles) but, how we see it is "We believe we are changing the world, one e-bike at a time, and playing a part in bringing India to the Global map for EVs." The company aims to bring across top-quality eBikes which would currently cost way more in the Indian market at an affordable price utilizing its local sourcing and manufacturing capabilities.

Let's talk numbers We are currently the market leader in India across the e-bike category and are just on the verge of announcing our series C. Having grown from a team of 5 to 150+ across the globe, from a small garage to offices across 15 countries and clocking in INR 300+ Cr revenue in first three years of operations. We have raised a series B from global investors. We think this is a great start to our exciting journey.

We think this is a great start to our exciting journey.

Come, join us, help us transform the world, mobility, and have a blast while doing it! Think you are the right fit? Feel free to apply!

Experience: 2–5 years

Department: New Product Development

Reports to: Product & Strategy Lead

Work Mode: On-site (Pune), Full time

About the Role:

EMotorad builds electric bicycles and EV products. We are looking for an Embedded Engineer who can own both the hardware and firmware of a product end to end: architecture, development, testing and release. You will make key technical decisions for products such as motor controllers, BMS, displays and IoT modules.

You will work across the hardware, mechanical, app and cloud teams and take products from first prototype to mass production and field support.

Key Responsibilities:

Firmware

- Own firmware architecture for products such as motor controllers, BMS, displays and IoT modules.
- Choose microcontrollers, RTOS, communication protocols and software structure for new products.
- Write, review and maintain high-quality embedded C/C++ code.
- Develop drivers, middleware and application logic; integrate third-party stacks (BLE, CAN, USB, file systems).

- Design bootloaders and secure over-the-air (OTA) update systems.
- Bring up new PCBs and debug complex hardware–firmware issues with the hardware team.
- Define test strategy: unit tests, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), validation and field tests.
- Investigate field failures and customer issues; lead root-cause analysis and fixes.
- Set coding standards, run code reviews and guide junior engineers.
- Support certification, production test tools and manufacturing line issues.
- Evaluate new chips, sensors and suppliers and give technical recommendations.

Hardware Design

- Design schematics and multi-layer PCBs for controllers, BMS, displays and IoT boards.
- Select components: microcontrollers, MOSFETs, gate drivers, power ICs, sensors and connectors.
- Design power circuits: DC-DC converters, LDOs, battery input protection and reverse-polarity protection.
- Design motor drive and battery circuits: 3-phase inverters, current sensing, cell monitoring and balancing.
- Do PCB layout for high current, thermal performance and EMC/EMI.
- Run circuit simulations and calculations (thermal, power loss, tolerance).
- Prepare BOM, Gerbers and assembly files; work with PCB and EMS vendors.
- Build prototypes, test boards and fix hardware issues.
- Support design for manufacturing (DFM), design for test (DFT) and cost reduction.

Required Qualifications:

- B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, Computer or a related field.
- 2–5 years of embedded systems experience.

Firmware skills

- Expert embedded C and good C++ on ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers (STM32, NXP, TI or similar).
- Deep knowledge of ADC, PWM, timers, interrupts, DMA, UART, SPI, I2C, CAN and USB.
- Strong experience with FreeRTOS or another RTOS: tasks, queues, timing and memory use.
- Ability to design firmware architecture:

layered drivers, state machines, error handling and logging.
- Bootloader, flash memory management and OTA update experience.
- Able to read schematics, datasheets and reference manuals; good analog and digital electronics basics.
- Low-power design for battery-powered products.
- Expert debugging with oscilloscope, logic analyser, JTAG/SWD, protocol analysers and trace tools.
- Toolchains: STM32CubeIDE, Keil, IAR or GCC/CMake; static analysis tools.
- Git, code reviews and CI/CD for firmware builds and tests.
- Unit testing and hardware-in-the-loop testing; clear technical documentation.
- Python scripting for test automation, data logging and production tools.
- Knowledge of coding standards (MISRA C) and EMC/EMI good practices.
- Strong ownership, communication and ability to work across teams.

Hardware design skills

- Schematic and PCB design in Altium, KiCad or OrCAD, including 4–6 layer boards.
- Power electronics: buck/boost converters, MOSFET and gate driver selection, current sensing.
- Analog design: op-amps, filters, ADC front ends and sensor interfaces.
- High-current and thermal PCB layout; EMC/EMI and ESD protection design.
- Simulation tools such as LTspice or PSpice.
- Hardware testing with oscilloscope, power analyser, electronic load and thermal camera.
- Knowledge of IPC standards and component derating.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in EV, e-bike, automotive or drone products.
- BLDC/PMSM motor control (FOC) and battery/BMS firmware.
- Functional safety awareness (ISO 26262 or IEC 61508) and AIS-156 for EV batteries.
- Bluetooth (BLE), Wi-Fi, GSM/4G and MQTT for connected devices.
- Embedded security: secure boot, encryption and firmware signing.
- Embedded Linux basics.
- Experience getting boards through EMC, IP rating or safety certification.
- Experience taking a product to mass production.

Key Skills:

Embedded C/C++ · ARM Cortex-M (STM32) · FreeRTOS · Bootloader and OTA · CAN/BLE/USB · Schematic and PCB design · Power electronics · BLDC/PMSM motor control (FOC) · BMS · EMC/EMI · HIL testing · Python test automation
