IT, Facilities & Lab Operations Manager
Location:
Bengaluru, India | On-site Company: Ayar Labs Position Overview Great engineering depends on a workplace that works: laptops ready on day one, reliable connectivity, an organized lab, and someone nearby who can figure out what’s wrong and get it fixed. At Ayar Labs, we’re building optical I/O technology for high-performance computing. We’re looking for a resourceful, hands-on IT, Facilities & Lab Operations Manager to support our India office and help our engineers do their best work. You’ll be the local person people turn to for technical help and practical solutions, working closely with the office manager and our global IT and lab teams. This is an on-site role with plenty of variety. One morning, you might help a colleague get connected, set up a new workstation, or troubleshoot hardware with a remote IT teammate. Later, you might organize a lab bench, check a portable clean dry air (CDA) system, or coordinate a repair with a service provider. You’ll manage day-to-day operations through direct, hands-on work, with room to improve how the site runs as it grows. What You’ll Achieve
• An engineering team that can stay focused. Provide friendly, responsive helpdesk support for computers, software, accounts, connectivity, and meeting-room technology. Help new colleagues get started, keep users informed, and follow issues through to resolution. Work with global IT on access, device setup, updates, and security practices.
• Reliable cloud support for the EDA team. Support engineering teams in an AWS environment. Partner with global IT and EDA to help provision and maintain Linux compute environments, manage user access, and troubleshoot connectivity, storage, and tool-license access issues so engineers can keep design and simulation workloads running.
• Local hands for a global team. Be the on-site eyes and hands for remote IT and engineering colleagues. Help install and connect equipment, inspect hardware, trace and label cables, replace approved components, and carry out guided troubleshooting. Capture useful details so specialists can resolve issues quickly.
• Labs and workspaces that are ready to use. Keep benches, equipment, tools, spares, and supplies organized and easy to find. Maintain practical inventory and maintenance records, support equipment setup and moves,
and coordinate service or calibration with lab owners and vendors. Follow lab safety and equipment-handling procedures, including electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions where applicable.
• Small facilities problems are handled before they become disruptions. Partner with the office manager on everyday upkeep, minor repairs, and simple installations. Support routine checks and basic upkeep of portable CDA systems and other supporting equipment within your training and approved procedures. Coordinate with building management and qualified service providers when work needs specialist attention, and follow through until it’s complete.
• Better ways of working. Turn recurring problems into practical improvements. Keep explicit support notes, useful checklists, and straightforward how-to guides. Help plan equipment and supply needs, flag risks early, and coordinate priorities with the office manager, IT, and engineering. Skills You’ll Need to Bring
• 5+ years of IT experience, with hands-on helpdesk, desktop support, systems administration, or similar work supporting employees directly.
• A practical troubleshooting foundation across computer hardware, operating systems, business applications, user access, and basic networking. You can work through an unfamiliar problem and recognize when to bring in a specialist.
• Comfort with light facilities work: using basic tools, fixing small problems, helping set up workspaces, and learning the routine care of equipment such as portable CDA systems.
• Strong organization skills and a habit of leaving labs, workspaces, equipment records, and shared supplies easier for others to use.
• Clear communication, patience with users, and dependable follow-through. You can work independently on-site while coordinating effectively with remote colleagues and local vendors. Experience in a semiconductor, electronics, or photonics lab is a plus. Familiarity with Linux, Windows, lab equipment handling, ESD practices, asset tracking, or small-office facilities support will also help.
You don’t need to have done every part of this role already; we’re looking for a solid IT foundation, practical judgment, and an interest in learning the rest. Why This Role Matters You’ll see the impact of your work every day: a new hire ready to contribute, a lab setup back in service, or an engineer able to keep working because you spotted and solved a problem. You’ll work close to the engineering team, build experience across IT and lab operations, and help shape a workplace people can rely on. If you enjoy helping people, working with your hands, and making things run better, we’d like to hear from you. NOTE TO RECRUITERS: Principals only. We are not accepting resumes from recruiters for this position. Remuneration for recruiting activities is only applicable subject to a signed and executed agreement between the parties.
