Job Description and Requirements RDE India Program Lead
The company BHS Corrugated India Pvt Ltd, based in Pune is established since 2011 as a subsidiary of BHS Corrugated, Germany. We bring together start-up culture and decades of corporate experience.
We are working on the digital future of the corrugated cardboard industry. As an independent player, we act as a partner to the entire industry and network manufacturers, customers and service providers in a unique industrial ecosystem. We use it to create highly efficient and easy processes with the aim of making the corrugated cardboard industry the most innovative and productive industry segment worldwide.
Job Purpose
Lead the India-based delivery of BHS's global engineering digital-thread and digital-twin program the initiative connecting design, manufacturing, and field data into a single, governed digital representation of the company's core machinery. This is a founding role: build the India engineering capability from first principles, in direct partnership with the company's European engineering headquarters, and grow it into a standing, India-anchored engineering leadership function as the program matures from proof-of-concept to full operational scale.
Dimensions
- Full delivery accountability for a multi-year, phase-gated engineering investment program, from initial proof-of-concept through operational scale-up
- Budget owner for the India side of the program, with joint accountability alongside European engineering leadership
- Single point of technical and programmatic interface between the India delivery team and the global CTO's office
- Oversight of a small founding team, growing into a full engineering organisation as the program scales, including named domain-expert counterparts in Europe during the knowledge-transfer phase
- Works within a governance structure that treats India and Europe as peer engineering organisations, not a hub-and-delivery-centre relationship
Principal accountabilities
- Stand up the India program from the ground up architecture decisions, team formation, workspace and delivery infrastructure against an agreed, signed blueprint
- Own the data architecture and integration standards that connect design, manufacturing, and operational systems into a single governed digital twin in industry-standard open formats, not proprietary point solutions
- Sequence delivery around a proof-of-concept-first approach on the company's core product line, before extending the same architecture to the wider portfolio
- Run structured knowledge transfer with named European engineering counterparts across each technical domain, ensuring the India team gains genuine engineering depth, not just operational familiarity
- Meet applicable cybersecurity and software-supply-chain compliance obligations for industrial engineering data on schedule
- Report jointly with European program leadership into a monthly steering cadence chaired by the global CTO, escalating only genuine strategic decisions scope, budget, and gate pass/fail rather than operational detail.
Know-how, problem solving & accountability
- Know-How. Deep, hands-on engineering depth in industrial digital-thread and digital-twin architectures this is an engineering leadership role, not a pure programme-management one. Working fluency across mechanical and RDE India Program Lead electrical design data, enterprise resource planning integration, and operational technology, sufficient to make and defend real architecture decisions with peer engineering leadership in Europe.
- Problem Solving. Operates from an agreed blueprint and phase-gate structure, but much of the India-side execution model team formation, local delivery rhythm, the practical mechanics of cross-border knowledge transfer is being defined for the first time. Constant judgment is required to balance proof-of-concept speed against the architectural discipline a multi-year program depends on.
- Accountability. High freedom to act as budget owner and single technical interface for the India side of the program. Measured against phase-gate milestones, not just activity. Decisions on architecture and data standards affect the program's entire multi-year trajectory, since early choices are expensive to unwind once the digital twin scales across the company's product portfolio.
Competencies
Methodological
- Phase-gated program design comfortable operating within formal investment gates rather than open-ended delivery
- Architecture governance discipline able to set and enforce data and integration standards across multiple engineering domains, not just one
- Proof-of-concept-first sequencing knows how to prove an architecture on a single, bounded scope before extending it enterprise-wide
Technology
- Working depth across mechanical design data (PLM/CAD-class systems), electrical design data, and enterprise resource planning integration
- Fluency in digital-twin and digital-thread architecture using open, industry-standard data models rather than single-vendor lock-in
- Working knowledge of operational technology and shop-floor system integration
- Awareness of cybersecurity and software-supply-chain compliance obligations relevant to industrial engineering data
People
- Builds a founding team from close to zero comfortable hiring into an unproven structure, not just staffing an established one
- Runs structured, named-counterpart knowledge transfer rather than generic training treats each engineering domain's handover as its own relationship to manage
- Explicit succession thinking from the outset, so the India capability is never dependent on any single person, including this role
Leadership
- Operates as a genuine engineering peer to senior European engineering leadership, not a delivery manager reporting upward into it
- Comfortable holding both a technical and a program-governance identity at once credible in architecture reviews and in steering committees
- Builds trust across a cross-border governance structure where authority is shared, not unilateral
- A credible, visible leader capable of attracting strong engineering talent into a newly founded India capability
Ideal candidate profile
Significant engineering leadership experience within a German or European industrial engineering context, with direct exposure to digital-thread, digital-twin, or comparable enterprise engineering-data architecture initiatives. Track record of building or scaling an engineering capability in India for a European parent organisation. Engineering credibility comes first candidates should have real design or systems-architecture depth, not only programme-management experience.
