A Vertical Machining Center (VMC) Operator runs, sets up, and monitors computer-controlled milling machines to shape metal or plastic parts. Key duties include loading raw materials, setting tool/work offsets, reading engineering blueprints, inspecting finished components with precision tools, and performing routine machine maintenance.

Core Responsibilities

- Machine Operation: Load and unload workpieces, start cycles, and monitor 3-axis or multi-axis VMC equipment (Fanuc, Siemens, or similar controls).
- Setup & Offsets: Mount fixtures and tools in the magazine, set work and tool offsets, and adjust machining parameters as cutters wear.
- Quality & Inspection: Measure parts using Vernier calipers, micrometers, dial gauges, and height gauges to ensure they match blueprint tolerances.
- Troubleshooting: Watch for tool breakage, vibration (chatter), or abnormal loads, and report or adjust minor code/offset errors.
- Maintenance & Safety: Manage coolants and chips,



keep the work zone clean (5S standards), and follow shop safety rules.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, BE - Any, Fitter, Machinist, or Tool & Die.
- Experience: 0 to 3+ years in a precision manufacturing or engineering shop (local opportunities in Coimbatore range from general production setups to specialized tooling firms like Best Tooling Technology).
- Technical Skills:
- Blueprint and GD&T; reading
- G-code and M-code familiarity (basic editing or full programming depending on role level)
- Tool selection and speed/feed adjustments
