Role Objective
We are looking for a Sr. Manager - Strategy & Advisory in Insurance Domain who operates upstream of delivery — entering engagements at the stage where the customer's problem is not yet defined. This role shapes and frames insurance customer problems at the CXO and business-leader level, ahead of solution definition and delivery, positioning LUMIQ as a trusted domain advisor rather than a technology vendor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead pre-engagement discovery with customer business leaders — CFOs, CROs, Chief Actuaries, Heads of Underwriting, and COO offices — to frame the business problem before solution definition begins.
- Develop point-of-view documents on customer-specific business problems: loss ratio deterioration in motor and health portfolios, persistency challenges in life insurance, operational leakage in claims processing, and regulatory cost in IRDAI compliance cycles.
- Define problem boundaries and success criteria in collaboration with customer leadership, producing artefacts that can be handed to delivery and pre-sales teams.
- Bring structured advisory thinking to client conversations: hypothesis-driven problem framing, top-down segmentation of business challenges, and clear articulation of the cost or risk implication of inaction.
- Author POV papers, briefing notes, and client-facing strategy documents that position LUMIQ as a domain advisor, not a vendor.
- Represent LUMIQ at industry forums, CXO roundtables, and insurance conferences as a credible domain voice.
- Partner with the sales team to convert advisory conversations into commercial opportunities - bridging the gap between a CXO's stated business problem and a proposal that addresses it.
- Participate in client governance reviews and QBRs as the domain authority,
reinforcing long-term advisory relationships.
- Support account planning with domain-specific insight: where an insurer is underinvested relative to peers, upcoming regulatory or competitive triggers, and the 18-month outlook for their segment.
- Build and maintain LUMIQ's insurance domain knowledge base: reference models for underwriting economics, claims cost analysis, distribution channel profitability, product pricing frameworks, and regulatory compliance structures.
- Coach delivery teams on domain context to ensure business outcomes — not just technical outputs — remain the measure of success.
Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in Insurance or BFSI, with sustained exposure to business-side problems (not purely technology implementation).
- Deep fluency in insurance workflows: life and non-life underwriting, claims management (motor, health, property), policy servicing, distribution and agency management, reinsurance structures, and actuarial reserving.
- Ability to contribute to P&L; conversations — understanding how an insurer's income statement is shaped by combined ratio, investment yield, expense ratio, claims frequency and severity, and persistency/lapse rates.
- Customer-segment economics: premium drivers in retail health, cost-to-serve in agency distribution, loss ratio dynamics in commercial lines,
and profitability of bancassurance partnerships.
- Regulatory and governance awareness: IRDAI frameworks, Solvency II concepts, product filing norms, data localisation, and policyholder protection guidelines — sufficient to identify regulatory tailwinds and headwinds in client conversations.
- Demonstrated history of direct CXO conversations on insurance business problems, with the ability to hold CFO, CRO, or Chief Actuary discussions unaccompanied.
- Comfort with board-level communication: synthesising complex business problems into crisp executive framing without loss of precision.
- Experience navigating multi-stakeholder environments — finance, actuarial, underwriting, claims, and IT — while anchoring the conversation to business outcomes.
- Hypothesis-driven problem framing and structured analytical communication (MECE, top-down narrative, data-backed assertions).
- Ability to build a business case: quantify the opportunity, identify the cost of inaction, and frame the solution boundary for a CXO audience.
- Strong written output: strategy memos, POV documents, executive briefings, and client-facing frameworks.
Preferred Background:
- Insurance strategy functions at large insurers or reinsurers: Strategy team, COO office, Transformation office, or Chief Actuary's office.
- Domain leads at insurance-focused technology or analytics firms with a track record of CXO-level engagement (not purely delivery roles).
- MBA from a premier institution (IIM, ISB, or equivalent global) with an insurance or BFSI specialisation, or post-MBA insurance strategy trajectory.
- Qualified qualifications such as ACII, FIII, or actuarial credentials (FIAI/AIAI) considered a strong advantage.
