Purpose/Objective

To manage and supervise all underground coal mining operations in compliance with the Mines Act, Coal Mines Regulations, DGMS guidelines, and company safety standards.

The incumbent will be responsible for secure production, manpower management, statutory compliance, mine planning, cost optimization, and achievement of production targets.

Key Responsibilities of Role

- Ensure achievement of monthly and annual coal production targets.
- Optimize utilization of mining equipment, machinery, and manpower.
- Monitor development and depillaring activities as per approved mining plans.
- Ensure efficient operation of Continuous Miner, Shuttle Car, LHD, SDL, conveyors, and other mining equipment.

Safety & Statutory Compliance - Function as the statutory Mines Manager under Coal Mines Regulations.

- Ensure strict compliance with DGMS regulations, Mines Act, CMR, and environmental norms.
- Conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Implement effective strata control, ventilation, firefighting, and emergency preparedness measures.
- Investigate accidents/incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Mine Planning & Development - Execute mine development plans as approved by competent authorities.

- Coordinate with survey, geology, and technical services teams.




- Monitor mine ventilation circuits and strata control measures.
- Ensure compliance with approved mine plans and extraction sequences.

Team Management - Lead a team of Assistant Managers, Overmen, Mining Sirdars, Supervisors, and contractual workforce.

- Conduct safety toolbox talks and training programs.
- Drive performance management and capability development initiatives.
- Maintain industrial harmony and workforce discipline.

Equipment & Maintenance Coordination - Coordinate with Mechanical and Electrical departments for equipment availability.

- Monitor machine productivity and downtime.
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.

Cost & Productivity Management - Monitor mining cost parameters and productivity indicators.

- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
- Implement best mining practices for operational efficiency.

Stakeholder Management - Liaise with DGMS officials, statutory authorities, and government agencies.

- Coordinate with internal departments including geology, survey, environment, HR, and finance.
- Support statutory inspections and audits.

Tech in Mining Engineering First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (Coal) issued by DGMS.

Experience - Minimum 10-15 years of experience in underground coal mining operations.
