Role: Senior Middleware Systems Administrator IBM WAS & MQ

Production Support | 24x7 Operations

Role Purpose The Senior Systems Administrator Middleware is responsible for providing reliable, high-quality production support for enterprise middleware platforms. The role will act as a technical subject matter expert, with particular emphasis on IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and IBM MQ, ensuring service availability, timely incident resolution, effective problem management, and continuous improvement across the middleware estate.

Mandatory Technical Knowledge and Experience

Candidates must have strong, hands-on technical knowledge of both IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and IBM MQ.

- At least 6+ years of relevant middleware administration and production-support experience, including strong practical exposure to IBM MQ and IBM WAS.
- IBM WAS administration, deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, performance analysis, and support across production and pre-production environments.
- IBM MQ architecture and message flows, distributed queuing, MQ clustering, MQ client-server connectivity, MQ SSL implementation, monitoring, and configuration.
- Troubleshooting MQ incidents across production and test environments, including authorization, connectivity, and message-flow issues.




- Working knowledge of MQ calls, MQ object and message backup and recovery procedures, and contingency practices.
- Good knowledge of Unix and Windows operating systems and commands.
- Ability to interpret middleware logs and use problem-determination and performance-monitoring tools.
- Sound understanding of networking principles and basic shell scripting.
- Robust understanding of business services, supporting architecture, dependencies, and operational criticality.

Preferred Technical Skills

- Administration or support experience with IBM HTTP Server, WebSphere Liberty, Oracle WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, JBoss, or Node.js.
- Knowledge of wsadmin scripting and tools such as IBM Support Assistant Workbench, Heap Analyzer, Wily, AppDynamics, or IBM Tivoli Monitoring.
- Exposure to MQ on mainframe or IBM i platforms, MQ IPT, DataPower, and other messaging or web technologies.
- Experience with integration platforms such as MuleSoft or Kong.
- Experience with automation and DevOps tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Jenkins, or GitHub.
- Basic knowledge of public-cloud frameworks, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
