Role & responsibilities
Purpose of the role. Marine Solutionz increasingly sits in the middle of offshore charter chains: chartering AHTS, OSVs and barges from owners and sub-chartering them to E&P; operators and EPC contractors. This role builds that into a dedicated, repeatable desk, protecting margin and contractual position on both sides of every fixture.
Key responsibilities
1. Business development and client enquiries
- Track offshore tenders and enquiries from E&P; operators (ONGC, Vedanta/Cairn, Reliance, Oil India, private block holders), EPC and installation contractors, and terminal/SPM operators.
- Qualify requirements: vessel type (AHTS, PSV, MPSV, DSV, crew boat, tug, flat-top/ballast barge), bollard pull, DP class, deck area/loading, FiFi, accommodation, period, area of operation.
- Prepare technical and commercial offers, tender submissions and responses to technical clarification queries, within agreed timelines.
1. Tonnage sourcing and owner relationships
- Build and maintain a live network of Indian and international owners, operators and brokers (Singapore, Middle East, SE Asia).
- Maintain a position list and market database: vessel availability, specs, day rates, mobilisation costs, open dates.
- Circulate enquiries, screen vessel particulars and certificates (class, flag, DOC, bollard pull, DP FMEA/trials, OVID/CMID where required) against client specs.
1. Negotiation and fixing
- Negotiate head charters with owners and sub-charters with clients on a back-to-back basis, securing owner terms before committing to the client.
- Structure commercials: day rate, mob/demob fees, fuel and consumables, WHT and GST treatment, payment terms, performance/off-hire clauses, extension options, margin.
- Draft and review recaps and charter parties (BIMCO SUPPLYTIME 2017, BARGEHIRE, TOWCON/TOWHIRE, client-form contracts); align liabilities, knock-for-knock, insurance and indemnities across the chain.
- Work with legal/finance on bank guarantees,
performance securities and EMD for tenders.
1. Regulatory and import clearances (India)
- Manage DG Shipping licensing for foreign-flag vessels (GTL/SPL/charter licence, Indian-flag ROFR process), customs entry/import for the charter period, and other mobilisation permissions.
- Coordinate with port agents for MOHA/ MOD, Naval Clerance, arrival, crew change, bunkering, supplies and husbandry.
1. Charter execution and post-fixture
- Oversee delivery/on-hire surveys, bunker surveys, redelivery and off-hire surveys.
- Monitor vessel performance, daily reports, fuel consumption and downtime against charter terms; manage off-hire and claims.
- Issue hire statements and invoices to clients; verify owner invoices; track receivables and payables so client collections fund owner hire.
- Handle disputes, variations and extensions; keep both owner and client relationships commercially sound.
1. Risk, compliance and reporting
- Run counterparty KYC, sanctions screening and credit checks on owners and charterers.
- Ensure P&I;, H&M; and charterers liability cover is in place and matches contractual obligations.
- Report weekly on pipeline, fixtures, utilisation, margin and receivables to the Business Head.
- Build templates, rate benchmarks and an owner/vessel database so the desk can scale.
