Job Summary

Responsible for preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of Cut-to-Length (CTL) lines and shearing machines to ensure smooth operation, accurate cutting, high productivity, and minimum machine downtime.

Key Responsibilities

A. CTL Machine Maintenance

- Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of the Cut-to-Length line.
- Maintain decoiler, coil car, pinch rolls, leveller, feeder rolls, measuring rolls, shear, conveyor, and stacker.
- Inspect and maintain hydraulic power packs, cylinders, pumps, valves, and pipelines.
- Check gearbox, bearings, couplings, chains, sprockets, and drive systems.
- Check leveller roll alignment, roll wear, and levelling performance.
- Maintain sheet-length measuring and feeding mechanisms.
- Troubleshoot problems related to sheet-length variation, feeding issues, vibration, and abnormal noise.
- Inspect and maintain lubrication systems and cooling systems.

B. Shearing Machine Maintenance

- Maintain mechanical and hydraulic shearing machines.
- Inspect shear blades for wear, damage, clearance, and alignment.
- Check hydraulic cylinders, pumps, pressure-control valves, and seals.
- Inspect blade holders, guides, back gauges, clutches, brakes, and drive mechanisms, where fitted.
- Check machine frame, fasteners, guards, and moving components.
- Investigate cutting burrs, uneven cuts, blade-clearance issues, and abnormal machine vibration.
- Coordinate blade replacement, sharpening, and machine setting adjustments.

C. Preventive Maintenance

- Prepare and follow daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checklists.
- Monitor oil levels, hydraulic pressure, temperature, vibration, and leakage.
- Perform bearing lubrication and gearbox oil checks.
- Inspect belts, chains, couplings, fasteners, and machine alignment.
- Maintain maintenance history, breakdown reports, and spare-parts records.




- Identify recurring failures and implement corrective actions.

D. Safety and Production Support

- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and permit-to-work procedures.
- Ensure machine guards and safety interlocks are functional.
- Coordinate with production and electrical maintenance teams during breakdowns.
- Follow safe procedures for coil handling, blade changing, and hydraulic-system maintenance.
- Support production targets while maintaining product quality and equipment reliability.

3. Technical Skills Required

- Mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Bearings, gearboxes, couplings, and lubrication.
- Shear blade clearance and alignment.
- CTL line operation and maintenance knowledge.
- Basic fabrication, fitting, and welding knowledge.
- Preventive maintenance planning and root cause analysis.

4. Qualification and Experience

- Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, or ITI in Fitter/Mechanical Maintenance, depending on the position.
- Experience in steel service centres, sheet-metal processing, CTL lines, or shearing machines is preferred.
- Ability to respond to breakdowns and work in shifts as required.

5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Machine availability and uptime.
- Reduction in breakdown frequency and downtime.
- Completion of preventive maintenance schedules.
- Reduction in maintenance costs and spare-parts consumption.
- Improved cutting accuracy and reduced quality-related stoppages.
- Compliance with industrial safety procedures.

Working Environment: Steel processing shop with coil-handling equipment, hydraulic systems, rotating machinery, and heavy shearing equipment.
