Tata Electronics is a subsidiary of the Tata Group, which operates in more than 100 countries across six continents, with the mission to improve the quality of life of the communities it serves globally through long-term stakeholder value creation based on leadership with trust.
Summary The Industrial Engineering Lead is the Bid Management subject-matter owner for industrial engineering estimation and manufacturing capacity planning within the EMS core bid team. The role is responsible for translating customer RFQs into compliant, costed, and executable manufacturing solutions through robust industrial engineering analysis. As the owner of the industrial engineering basis of estimate, the position drives labour modeling, capacity validation, line balancing, productivity assessments, and manufacturing cost assumptions to support competitive and executable proposals.
Working closely with engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, finance, and customer teams, the role ensures proposal commitments are feasible, scalable, and ready for successful transition into NPI and production execution.
Responsibilities
- Own the industrial engineering basis of estimate, including activity-based labour standards using MOST/MTM methodologies.
- Develop labour models incorporating learning-curve assumptions, productivity improvements, and ramp-up scenarios.
- Perform takt-time calculation, line balancing, station manning, and manufacturing flow optimization for proposed solutions.
- Validate production capacity through OEE analysis, throughput modeling, and resource utilization assessments.
- Review RFQs, drawings, BOMs, specifications, and customer requirements to identify gaps, assumptions, and clarification needs.
- Define manufacturing assumptions, dependencies, risks, exclusions, and mitigation actions supporting proposal development.
- Develop estimates for cycle times, labour loading, tooling requirements, fixtures, NRE, lead times, and implementation milestones.
- Prepare auditable industrial engineering calculations and technical evidence supporting compliance, costing, and management approval.
- Lead industrial engineering workstreams, integrate SME inputs, and present recommendations during management review gates.
- Support make-versus-buy evaluations, supplier technical assessments, and manufacturing feasibility reviews to optimize cost and delivery performance.
Technical Expertise
- MOST and MTM-based work measurement, labour standard development, and time-study methodologies.
- Activity-based costing, labour modeling, and manufacturing basis-of-estimate development.
- Takt-time analysis, line balancing, workstation design, and manpower planning.
- OEE modeling, capacity validation, throughput analysis, and bottleneck identification.
- Learning-curve modeling, productivity forecasting, and ramp-up planning.
- NRE estimation, fixture/tooling cost assessment, and manufacturing investment justification.
- Yield-loss analysis, scrap assumptions, cost provisioning, and manufacturing cost optimization.
- RFQ decomposition, compliance matrix development, requirements traceability, and proposal governance.
- Manufacturing industrialization, NPI planning, process readiness, and production scalability assessment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Project, ERP/PLM systems, BOM analysis, and manufacturing estimation tools.
Qualifications & Experience
- B.E./B.Tech in Industrial, Mechanical, Production, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering.
- MBA or Postgraduate qualification in Operations, Finance, or a related discipline preferred.
- 10-15 years of experience in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, NPI, Manufacturing Industrialization, or Bid Management within EMS or complex product manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting customer RFQs, technical proposals, manufacturing capacity planning, labour estimation, and production line design.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and provide data-driven technical and commercial recommendations.
