Project Overview

Our client operates a cross-platform mobile and web platform that connects patients directly with registered dietitians for personalized virtual care. The platform enables one-on-one consultations, meal logging, habit tracking, and continuous real-time messaging.

We are looking for an experienced Ruby Engineer to strengthen the backend engineering team responsible for building, maintaining, and scaling the platform. The role focuses on developing secure and reliable server-side applications, designing efficient GraphQL APIs, optimizing database performance, and supporting seamless integration between application components.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and business logic using Ruby on Rails.
- Build and maintain GraphQL APIs that enable mobile and web applications to retrieve data efficiently.
- Develop reusable, maintainable backend components following established coding standards and engineering best practices.
- Optimize database queries, data models, associations, and transactions to improve application performance.
- Identify and resolve backend performance bottlenecks, production defects, and reliability issues.
- Integrate backend services with external systems and other application components.
- Implement appropriate authentication, authorization, input validation, and data protection measures.
- Collaborate with frontend, mobile, QA, product,



and other engineering teams to deliver end-to-end features.
- Participate in code reviews, debugging, testing, and continuous improvement of backend services.
- Contribute to application scalability, maintainability, and operational stability as the platform grows.

Required Experience and Qualifications
- 6+ years of relevant backend engineering experience, with strong hands-on Ruby on Rails development.
- Practical experience designing, developing, and maintaining GraphQL APIs.
- Strong understanding of RESTful services and API integration concepts.
- Experience with relational databases, database schema design, query optimization, and transaction management.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, clean code, and backend architecture.
- Experience troubleshooting complex application issues and improving performance and reliability.
- Knowledge of secure API development, authentication, authorization, and data validation.
- Experience working with Git, automated testing, and cooperative software development practices.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building backend services for mobile and web applications.
- Exposure to real-time messaging, event-driven workflows, or asynchronous processing.
- Familiarity with background jobs, caching, and application performance monitoring.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks commonly used in Ruby on Rails projects.
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and production support.
