We’re Hiring: Founding Security Engineer ?️
At Bitsmith Technologies, we build SPEAR — investigation technology for Indian law enforcement. It’s already in use with police in Maharashtra. Because our users are police, security is the foundation of everything we build, not a feature.
I’m looking for a founding security engineer to own SPEAR’s security from day one.
You might be the one if you:
- Application security: threat modeling, secure code review, OWASP-style issues, authn/authz design, session management, and fixing real vulnerabilities in production systems.
- Cloud and infrastructure security: IAM least-privilege, secrets management and rotation, network controls, encryption in transit and at rest, secure configuration of compute/storage/databases, and hardening public-cloud environments.
- Access control and multi-tenancy: designing or reviewing RBAC/ABAC, tenant isolation, privilege escalation prevention, and auditability of admin actions.
- Logging, monitoring, and audit trails: building or operating systems where security events are captured, protected, retained, and useful for investigations and compliance.
- Incident response:
detection, containment, evidence handling, post-incident analysis, and communicating with stakeholders when something goes wrong.
- Data protection and compliance: classifying sensitive data, implementing controls around it, and working with (or learning) Indian requirements such as CERT-In guidelines and the DPDP Act (security safeguards, purpose limitation, data principal rights, breach notification).
- Security operations basics: vulnerability management, dependency/supply-chain risk, secure SDLC practices, and knowing when and how to run or interpret penetration tests.
How it works:
- Before funding: Work with us alongside your current job, with flexible schedule, a founding ESOP grant from day one, and a monthly stipend.
- After the round: Move to full-time at a market-level salary, with your ESOP still vesting.
