- Work with engineers and product designers to understand the requirements for parts, ensuring the die design will produce high-quality products.
- Select appropriate materials for the die to ensure durability and efficiency.
- Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to design and simulate the die components and tools.
2. Die Fabrication and Assembly
- Responsibilities:
- Manufacture dies, molds, and tooling according to the design specifications.
- Operate machinery like lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machines to create precise tooling components.
- Assemble the die or mold and test it for proper function and fit within the production system.
- Make necessary adjustments during the assembly to ensure parts are produced accurately.
3. Maintenance and Repair of Dies
- Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on dies and molds to ensure they remain functional throughout production cycles.
- Inspect and clean dies regularly to remove any build-up of material or wear that could affect performance.
- Troubleshoot issues that arise during the production process, such as part defects, misalignment, or mold failure.
- Modify dies as needed to accommodate design changes or improve production efficiency.
4. Troubleshooting and Quality Control
- Responsibilities:
- Investigate and troubleshoot production issues related to tooling and die performance, including defects in parts.
- Inspect products produced by the die for quality and adherence to design specifications.
- Ensure that dies and molds maintain consistent quality throughout the production process.
- Work closely with quality control teams to ensure that any issues are resolved promptly to maintain production timelines.
5. Collaboration with Other Departments
- Responsibilities:
- Work closely with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure that tooling and dies meet the requirements of the production process.
- Provide input and feedback to design teams to ensure that tooling is feasible and aligns with the intended production schedule.
- Assist in the training of new employees on the proper use, care, and maintenance of dies and tooling.
6.
Material
Selection and Tooling Optimization
- Responsibilities:
- Research and select the best materials for dies, molds, and tools, considering factors like wear resistance, cost, and material properties.
- Optimize the design of dies to improve the speed and efficiency of production, while maintaining product quality.
- Stay updated with advancements in materials and technology to enhance tooling processes.
7.
Production
Support and Process Improvement
- Responsibilities:
- Provide ongoing support during production by monitoring die performance and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
- Collaborate with production teams to suggest improvements in tooling design or machine setup to reduce production costs and increase efficiency.
- Participate in root cause analysis when defects or delays occur, and propose solutions for future prevention.
8. Safety and Compliance
- Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all die-making processes comply with safety standards and regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring that equipment is properly maintained and that workers follow secure procedures when handling tools.
- Stay informed about health, safety, and environmental regulations that affect the die-making process.
9. Inventory and Tooling Management
- Responsibilities:
- Maintain an inventory of dies, molds, and tools, ensuring that replacements are available when necessary.
- Manage the proper storage and handling of tooling to prevent damage and ensure longevity.
- Keep detailed records of die performance, maintenance schedules, and any modifications made to the tooling.
10. Training and Development
- Responsibilities:
- Continuously improve skills and knowledge of die-making techniques, machinery, and industry standards.
