ROLE SUMMARY
The Identity Platform Engineer (IPE) is responsible for the hands-on engineering, automation, and integration of identity capabilities across the Identity Control Plane (ICP). This role implements approved identity architectures into production-ready, scalable, and repeatable platform solutions, treating identity as a governed platform rather than a ticket-driven service.
The IPE operates primarily within SailPoint-led identity governance, integrated with Entra ID, Active Directory, HR source systems, and downstream applications. The role focuses on delivery quality, automation depth, platform coherence, and operational durability, ensuring identity lifecycle processes are reliable, predictable, and scalable across workforce and contractor populations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Identity Platform Engineering & Delivery (Build Integrate Automate)
- Engineer and maintain end-to-end identity lifecycle flows (joiner, mover, leaver) using SailPoint as the primary governance and orchestration layer.
- Configure and support SailPoint connectors, rules, transforms, workflows, policies, and integrations.
- Implement identity provisioning, deprovisioning, and access changes across Entra ID, Active Directory, and enterprise applications.
- Ensure identity implementations follow approved standards, reference architectures, and integration patterns.
Automation & Platform Enablement (From Manual to Policy-Driven)
- Translate manual, exception-based identity processes into policy-driven, automated workflows.
- Reduce operational overhead by eliminating brittle, one-off provisioning logic.
- Contribute to the evolution of identity platform primitives that can be reused across applications and user populations.
- Partner with service and architecture leads to enforce standard paths over exceptions.
Integration Execution & Application Onboarding
- Act as the technical execution owner for identity engineering initiatives aligned to the ICP roadmap.
- Work closely with application teams to onboard applications into standard identity governance and provisioning models.
- Implement identity integrations that support role-based access, birthright access, and request-driven access as defined by platform standards.
- Ensure integrations are supportable, observable, and aligned to long-term platform direction.
Operational Quality, Stability & Scale
- Build identity solutions that are resilient, predictable, and supportable at enterprise scale.
- Proactively identify and remediate recurring identity issues through engineering improvements rather than operational workarounds.
- Support root cause analysis and engineering remediation efforts in partnership with IAM Service Leads.
- Ensure identity implementations support auditability and evidence generation without owning compliance execution.
Delivery Traceability & Engineering Discipline
- Ensure identity engineering work is planned, tracked, and traceable via standard work management practices.
- Document configurations, integrations, and workflows sufficiently to support operations, audits, and future enhancements.
- Contribute to shared documentation and knowledge repositories to improve platform transparency and reuse.
- Support continuous improvement of identity engineering standards and patterns over time.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required - Identity Engineering & Automation
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong hands-on experience engineering enterprise identity platforms, with depth in identity lifecycle automation and integration.
- Proven experience implementing joiner, mover, and leaver (JML) processes using identity governance tools.
- Demonstrated ability to convert manual identity processes into automated, policy-driven solutions.
Required - Identity Platforms & Protocols
- Hands-on experience with enterprise identity platforms, including directory services and modern cloud identity systems.
- Solid understanding of identity and access concepts and protocols, such as SAML, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and directory synchronization.
- Experience integrating identity platforms with HR systems and downstream applications via APIs or supported connectors.
Required - Engineering & Integration Practices
- Experience designing and maintaining repeatable, supportable configuration models.
- Ability to balance engineering rigor with practical delivery constraints.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across identity flows, integrations, and provisioning logic.
- Experience working in environments transitioning from legacy/manual identity processes to standardized platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with SailPoint IdentityNow or IdentityIQ, including custom workflows and integrations.
- Experience supporting identity modernization or Active Directory modernization initiatives.
- Exposure to CI/CD concepts and configuration promotion models, even if not fully pipeline-driven.
- Experience working in global enterprise environments with hybrid identity architectures.
ROLE CHARACTERISTICS / WORKING MODEL
- Senior individual contributor role with deep technical ownership and execution accountability.
- Highly cooperative, working closely with architecture, service, security, and application teams.
- Focused on platform outcomes, not ad-hoc ticket resolution.
- Expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy within established architectural and service boundaries.
- May support time-sensitive delivery efforts or critical platform initiatives as needed.
- Offshore-capable role with strong documentation and collaboration practices.
