People & Operations Lead Company description aaram is an online yoga platform for relief from back pain — lower back, neck and shoulders, and the full back — with a dedicated module for period pain. Classes are gentle, home-based and daily, built on the body, the breath and the mind, and grounded in classical yoga therapy refined by senior teachers of the Kashish Yoga family, who have trained more than 10,000 yoga teachers across 120 countries. Classes are in Hindi and English. Members begin with a free first week and then make one yearly sankalp, the same for everyone. aaram works alongside medical care, never in place of it. We are building the founding team now. Role: People & Operations Lead — Remote-first (India); travel to Goa, Delhi or Mumbai for work as needed; full-time; reports to the Founder You will be aaram’s first people hire, and you will build the team that launches it. This is a builder’s role: half recruiting, half setting up how aaram works as a workplace. What you will do
• Recruit the founding team against the launch plan: class and recording team, editor, class coordinator, live-chat host, customer-support lead, WhatsApp automation and YouTube specialists, and a marketing partner — at the Goa studio and remote across India.
• Write role definitions and
job description
s with the Founder, run sourcing, screening and interviews, and close offers.
• Set up the HR foundation from scratch: contracts and contractor agreements, payroll and statutory compliance, leave and working-hours policies, onboarding and exit.
• Build aaram’s onboarding so every recent person understands the brand,
the safety stance and the way we speak to members before their first day of work.
• Own the people side of the pilot and launch: rosters for the six daily class slots, backup cover, and a working rhythm for a distributed team that runs morning and evening — including the Goa studio team you will visit regularly.
• Keep simple, accurate people data — headcount, hiring pipeline, costs — and report weekly to the Founder.
• Shape the culture deliberately: a small, warm, disciplined team that treats members with care and each other the same way. First 90 days
• Days 1–30: HR foundation in place; first five roles live and sourcing.
• Days 31–60: class, recording and editing team hired; onboarding running.
• Days 61–90: coordinator, support and chat roles filled; rosters ready for the pilot. Who you are
• Four or more years in HR or people operations in a startup or small company, where you did everything yourself rather than ran one function.
• You have hired for operations, content or service roles at volume, and you have hired remote people and made it work.
• You know Indian payroll, contractor and basic labour compliance well enough to set it up without a consultant.
• Clear, kind communicator in English and Hindi; comfortable with a founder who moves fast.
• Based anywhere in India and able to travel to Goa, Delhi or Mumbai for hiring drives, studio time and team days; aaram will set up temporary co-working space in these cities as the team grows.
• A personal connection to yoga, wellness or service work is a strong plus; it is not required.
