Education: B.Tech/B.E. in Instrumentation Engineering or Instrumentation and Control Engineering
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Role
CEEPL is seeking an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to support the instrumentation design of a research reactor facility. The role involves engineering activities from conceptual design and detailed engineering through commissioning support, covering process instrumentation, control systems and radiation instrumentation interfaces.
The successful candidate will collaborate with reactor, process, electrical, control systems, civil and radiation protection teams to develop reliable, compliant and safety-conscious instrumentation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Select and specify process instruments for pressure, differential pressure, temperature, level and flow measurement, including transmitters, RTDs, thermocouples, switches, flow elements and control valves.
- Prepare instrument indexes, datasheets, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, cable schedules, I/O lists, junction box schedules and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Prepare and review Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs;), defining instrumentation requirements, interlocks and alarms.
- Perform sizing calculations for control valves, orifice plates, flow elements and safety/relief devices, including instrument range and accuracy calculations.
- Develop control and protection philosophies, including interlocks, trip logic and alarm schemes, in coordination with process and reactor design teams.
- Design instrument power supplies, grounding and cabling schemes,
ensuring appropriate segregation of safety-related and non-safety circuits.
- Prepare technical specifications, tender documents and technical bid evaluations for instruments, panels and control system packages.
- Review vendor drawings, technical documentation and equipment submittals.
- Prepare design basis documents, system descriptions and calculation reports, and address comments arising from engineering and safety reviews.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, civil and HVAC disciplines on instrument locations, cable routing and system interfaces.
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), site installation, calibration, loop checks, testing and commissioning.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements and quality assurance procedures.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- B.Tech/B.E. in Instrumentation Engineering or Instrumentation and Control Engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience in process instrumentation design for industrial facilities, power plants, oil and gas or process industries.
- Working knowledge of instrument selection, sizing, installation practices and applicable ISA, IEC and API standards.
- Experience preparing instrument datasheets, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, cable schedules and I/O lists.
- Familiarity with P&IDs;, control philosophies, interlocks and alarm design.
- Understanding of process measurement instruments, control valves and instrumentation interfaces with control systems.
- Solid technical documentation, communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
Preferred Additional Qualifications – Nuclear Sector Candidates with experience or knowledge of nuclear facilities and research reactor projects will be preferred.
- Understanding of instrumentation safety principles, including safety classification, redundancy, diversity, independence and single-failure criteria.
- Familiarity with applicable nuclear instrumentation standards, including IEC 61513, IEC 60880, IEC 61226 and IEC 60987, and relevant IEEE nuclear standards.
- Ability to prepare engineering documentation suitable for nuclear safety assessments and regulatory reviews.
- Familiarity with the engineering practices and design review processes of Indian nuclear organisations such as NPCIL and BARC.
- Knowledge of data acquisition systems, plant information systems and operator display systems.
- Experience with commissioning, calibration management, loop testing and instrumentation verification.
Why Join CEEPL?
- Contribute to specialised research reactor and nuclear infrastructure projects.
- Work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams on safety-critical systems.
- Gain exposure to advanced instrumentation design, technical reviews and engineering standards.
- Develop expertise in complex industrial and nuclear instrumentation systems.
How to Apply Interested candidates are invited to submit their CV highlighting relevant instrumentation design experience and project work.
