Every rescue starts with a phone call. Could you be the person who answers it?:
It is 6 a.m. and a call comes in: a dog has been hit by a vehicle and is lying at the side of the road. Someone needs to stay calm, send the right team, keep the caller informed and have the vet ready when the animal arrives. At Sarvoham, that someone is our Animal Rescue & Response Manager.
If you care deeply about animals and you are brilliant at keeping a team and a process running smoothly under pressure, we would love to hear from you.
A little about us:
Sarvoham Welfare Trust is dedicated to the welfare of underprivileged animals in Bengaluru. Our co-founders, Haris Ali and Madhusmita Sahu, started Sarvoham in April 2017 with a simple but big idea: a world where people and animals live side by side, and every animal is treated with respect.
Nine years on, we have grown from a small charitable effort into a well-established animal welfare organisation. We have rescued more than 3,500 street animals and provide shelter for over 200 dogs.
The name says it all. Sarvoham stands for harmony between all elements of nature, human and non-human alike, and that spirit guides everything we do.
Why this role matters:
Every animal we help passes through this role first. Whether an animal is sick, injured, abandoned or in danger, you are the link between the person who reported it, the veterinary, the rescue teams and shelter teams who will care for it. This is not a support function. It is the front line of why Sarvoham exists.
You will take our mission, to rescue, treat, rehabilitate and rehome dogs from the streets of Bengaluru and turn it into reliable, repeatable action on the ground. You will work closely with our leadership team, the Board and other civil society organisations, building relationships that bring more people into the work and widen our impact across India.
We are at a defining moment in our journey, and we are building a lasting network of partnerships and philanthropy so that many more lives can be saved. You will help shape how our rescue operations are designed and led, and you will leave a mark on our veterinary and sanctuary work for years to come.
What you will be doing:
Planning and Responding:
- Plan rescue operations around the needs of each case,
and work with the relevant teams to keep everyone aligned.
- Answer rescue and distress calls promptly, decide what is most urgent and dispatch help accordingly.
- Carry out a proper risk assessment before every rescue, and put sensible measures in place to keep our teams, the public and the animals safe.
Getting animals where they need to be:
- Make sure injured or at-risk animals are transported safely, humanely and without delay.
- Schedule transport services for animals ready to go home after recovery.
- Keep pet owners and callers updated on the status of the rescued animals from pick-up until the animal recovered and successfully rehabilitated.
- Help pet owners find their way around our helpline's IVR system and answer their questions kindly and clearly.
Following through:
- Follow up on unresolved cases and see each one through to a proper resolution.
- Close cases once they are resolved, with the paperwork in order.
- Invite people involved in rescues to share their experience through reviews, to build trust towards the larger cause of animal rescue and welfare.
Leading the team and the resources:
- Lead and support our rescue teams, helping them do their best work.
- Look after the practical side of staffing, including approving timesheets, monitoring call queues and managing breaks.
- Identify and organise the resources each rescue needs, working with suppliers and partners to get them on time.
- Manage logistics so that vehicles, equipment and people are used well.
- Organise training sessions and workshops that build your team's skills in emergency response and rescue.
Keeping good records:
- Keep accurate records of rescue activity, including mission plans, medical treatment records and outcomes.
- Enter relevant information into our Rescue Management System and medical records.
- Pitch in wherever else the shelter and its residents need you.
What success looks like:
We will measure success by what happens to the animals and the people around them, not just by numbers. We will look at things like:
- Speed and reliability: how quickly calls are answered and teams dispatched, and how many calls are attended within our target response times.
- Animal outcomes: survival and recovery rates, how quickly rescued animals are seen by a vet, and how closely our veterinary protocols are followed.
- Where animals go next: how many are successfully rehomed, released or fostered, and how few return to us.
- A safe, skilled team: training completed, low safety incidents for both people and animals, and a team that wants to stay.
- Strong partnerships and a happy community: how quickly public complaints are resolved, and how well we work with municipal bodies, other NGOs and the authorities.
- Good governance: accurate, timely documentation, adherence to animal welfare law and our own protocols, and sensible management of costs, vehicles and supplies.
Who we are looking for:
You are a purpose-driven person who combines compassion with clear thinking and a talent for getting things done. You inspire the people around you and keep calm when needed the most.
You will need:
- Demonstrable compassion towards animals (Required).
- Ability to work a 6-day week, on-site (Required).
- Availability to respond to exigencies outside of working hours (Required).
- Language proficiency in English, Hindi and Kannada (Required).
- Experience in animal rescues (Preferred).
- A Bachelor's degree (preferred).
- At least four years of progressive experience in customer support.
- Comfort with Microsoft Office, email and presentation software.
- A good understanding of safety protocols and secure working procedures.
- Precise, reliable record-keeping.
Why join Sarvoham?
Because the work is real, and so is the difference you make. We are building a more compassionate society where animals can live with dignity. We want people who share that belief and trust their own experience and judgement to change outcomes for animals when they need it the most.
You will lead by example, work alongside a passionate team and help build a animal rescue practice that will last for generations.
