A VTL (Vertical Turning Lathe) Operator sets up and runs vertical turning machines to shape large, heavy metal parts according to engineering blueprints. Key duties include loading workpieces, selecting cutting tools, setting offsets, checking dimensions with precision instruments, and maintaining workplace safety.

Core Job Responsibilities
Machine Operation: Run manual or CNC VTL machines to turn, face, bore, and groove heavy industrial components.
Setup & Tooling: Mount workpieces on the vertical table, choose appropriate cutting inserts/tools, and set proper speeds, feeds, and coordinate offsets.
Blueprint Reading: Interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T; symbols, and process sheets.
Quality Inspection: Use precision tools like micrometers, vernier calipers, and dial gauges to verify tolerances.
Maintenance & Safety:



Keep the machine clean, perform daily checks, and follow plant safety rules.

Requirements & Qualifications
Education: ITI, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering ,BE- Any or 10th/12th pass with hands-on shop floor experience.
Skills: Robust understanding of metal-cutting properties, tool geometry, and basic CNC programming/offsets (if operating CNC VTL).
Experience: Typically 0 to 5 years in heavy engineering, aerospace, or automotive component manufacturing.
