Downtown Coffee is a specialty coffee-focused neighbourhood café in Baner, Pune, offering expertly crafted coffee, freshly baked products, breakfast and all-day café dining.

Our vision is to establish Downtown Coffee as Baner’s favourite neighbourhood café, recognised for exceptional coffee, fresh bakery products and warm hospitality.

We are looking for a passionate, skilled and customer-focused Barista who understands specialty coffee, delivers consistent beverage quality and creates a welcoming café experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coffee Preparation & Beverage Quality

- Prepare espresso-based beverages, including Espresso, Americano, Cappuccino, Latte, Flat White and Mocha.
- Prepare signature hot and iced coffee beverages according to standard recipes.
- Operate professional espresso machines and coffee grinders.
- Understand coffee extraction, grind settings, dosing, yield and brewing ratios.
- Maintain consistency in coffee taste, temperature and presentation.
- Demonstrate good milk steaming, texturing and latte art skills.
- Prepare cold beverages, iced teas and other café beverages.

2. Coffee Knowledge & Equipment Handling

- Understand coffee beans, roast profiles and flavour characteristics.
- Calibrate espresso grinders and maintain extraction standards.
- Perform daily cleaning and basic maintenance of coffee equipment.
- Monitor coffee bean freshness and storage conditions.
- Follow standard operating procedures for beverage preparation.

3. Customer Service & Sales

- Welcome guests and provide friendly, professional service.
- Explain coffee varieties, signature beverages and menu offerings.




- Recommend coffee and bakery pairings to increase average billing.
- Build relationships with regular customers.
- Handle customer preferences and special requests.
- Encourage repeat visits through consistent quality and hospitality.

4. Café Operations

- Complete opening and closing checklists.
- Maintain a clean, organised and well-stocked coffee station.
- Ensure timely beverage preparation during peak hours.
- Coordinate with the kitchen and bakery teams.
- Assist with order taking, billing and takeaway orders when required.
- Follow food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards.

5. Inventory & Cost Control

- Monitor daily consumption of coffee beans, milk, syrups and other ingredients.
- Follow standard recipes and portion controls.
- Minimise beverage wastage and maintain preparation records.
- Assist with stock checks and inventory management.
- Report equipment issues and ingredient shortages promptly.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Background:

- Diploma or Degree in Hotel Management / Hospitality.
- Professional Barista Training or Coffee Certification.
- Relevant experience in a specialty coffee shop or premium café.

Formal qualifications are preferred but not mandatory for candidates with strong practical skills.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

- Minimum 1–3 years of experience as a Barista in a specialty coffee shop, premium café or hotel.
- Strong knowledge of espresso-based coffee preparation.




- Hands-on experience with commercial espresso machines and grinders.
- Good understanding of coffee extraction and milk texturing.
- Basic latte art skills.
- Knowledge of cold coffee and signature beverage preparation.
- Good communication skills in English and Hindi; Marathi is an advantage.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work efficiently during busy morning hours.
