Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Java Software Engineer. The Java Software Engineer will design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications and services that support Outcome School’s learning and workforce development platforms. Daily responsibilities include implementing new features, improving existing microservices, integrating with internal and external systems, and ensuring code quality through reviews, unit tests, and documentation. The role will collaborate with product, curriculum,



and data teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions, troubleshoot technical issues, and optimize performance and reliability. The engineer will also contribute to technical best practices, participate in agile ceremonies, and help ensure secure, maintainable, and accessible systems for learners and partners. Qualifications
• Strong Java and general programming skills, with experience writing clean, maintainable, and testable code.
• Hands-on experience with software development practices, including version control, testing, and agile methodologies.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and experience building or maintaining distributed services.
• Proficiency with Spring Framework (e.g., Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security) for backend development.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, relational or NoSQL databases, and cloud platforms (such as AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; experience in edtech, social impact, or workforce development is a plus.
