Job SummaryWe are looking for a skilled and disciplined VMC Operator to set up, program, and operate Vertical Machining Centers to produce precision components. The ideal candidate can read engineering drawings, select the right tools, inserts, and fixtures, and deliver consistent quality while following 5S, Kaizen, and safety practices on the shop floor.
Key ResponsibilitiesMachining and Operation• Set up and operate VMC machines (Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or similar controllers) to produce components as per drawing and process sheet.
• Perform milling, drilling, boring, tapping, and contouring operations to specified tolerances.
• Load and unload components, and monitor cycle time, tool wear, and surface finish during production.
• Meet daily production targets while maintaining quality and minimizing rejections.
CNC Programming• Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs using G-codes and M-codes.
• Perform basic manual (conversational) programming at the machine and make offset and program corrections.
• Prove out recent programs through dry runs and first-piece trials.
• Work with CAM programmers or engineers to resolve programming issues, and maintain program backups and revision records.
Drawing Interpretation• Read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T; symbols, tolerances, surface finish symbols, and sectional views.
• Understand material specifications, heat treatment requirements, and process sequences.
• Identify drawing discrepancies and report them promptly.
Tooling, Inserts,
and Fixtures• Select appropriate cutting tools, tool holders, and inserts (carbide, coated, etc.) based on material and operation.
• Set tool lengths and work offsets accurately, and manage tool life and replacement.
• Use and set up fixtures, vices, and clamping devices correctly, ensuring rigidity and repeatability.
• Suggest improvements in tooling and fixture design to reduce cycle time and cost.
Quality Control• Inspect components using Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, dial indicators, and go/no-go gauges.
• Carry out first-piece, in-process, and final inspections, and maintain inspection records.
• Identify non-conformances, stop production if required, and escalate quality issues.
Kaizen, 5S, and Continuous Improvement• Participate actively in Kaizen activities to reduce setup time, cycle time, scrap, and waste.
• Implement and sustain 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) at the workstation.
• Submit improvement suggestions and support lean manufacturing initiatives.
Safety and Housekeeping• Follow all safety standards, SOPs, and machine safety guidelines, and use PPE at all times.
• Carry out daily machine checks, including lubrication, coolant level, and air pressure.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance and report abnormalities immediately.
• Report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions.
Required Qualifications• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Making, Machinist, or equivalent.
