Who we are
We're Tiny Miracles: a Mumbai social enterprise that believes beautifully made products can change the story of a whole community. Through Betterworld Designs, the people we work with craft bags, textiles and other products that end up in homes and stores around the world. Every order means steady income, skills and dignity for families who were too often left out.
3.5 million products stitched in 2025, creating 708 full time jobs, impacting 18 communities.
We're small enough that your work is visible on day one, and serious enough that quality, deadlines and compliance really matter.
Why this role exists
Every month, people across our office and shop-floor teams count on being paid correctly and on time, and every month brings a long list of statutory filings that can't slip. With the new Labour Codes changing the rules, this work needs one person who owns it end to end, not someone fitting it in between other priorities.
You'll run the engine room of HR: accurate payroll, clean employee records and zero statutory lapses. That frees our Head of People to focus on culture, capability and org design.
What you will own
Five areas, each with a transparent outcome. Here's what will be yours.
- Run monthly payroll end to end for office and shop-floor staff, covering attendance and leave inputs, overtime, variable pay, deductions and arrears, reconciled before sign-off, so that everyone is paid correctly and on time, and payslip queries are sorted within agreed turnaround times.
- Keep us fully compliant, owning monthly and annual filings for PF, ESIC, Professional Tax, Maharashtra Labour Welfare Fund, TDS inputs on salary, gratuity and statutory bonus, plus Shops and Establishments registers and the new Labour Codes, so that we never miss a deadline and audits, inspections and B Corp reviews are a non-event.
- Handle the moments that need care, including Full and Final settlements, exit formalities and clearances, and group health and accident insurance enrolments, endorsements and claims, so that people join and leave us with everything settled and nothing owed.
- Keep our HR data clean and useful, from employee master data and personnel files to the HRIS and a monthly HR MIS (headcount, attrition, leave, overtime cost and compliance status), so that decisions are made on numbers we trust, and manual work moves into simple, auditable systems.
- Be the first point of contact for worker queries and grievances, applying policies consistently,
drafting SOPs and policy updates, and supporting the POSH Internal Committee with records and reporting, so that people feel heard and are treated fairly, every time.
What this role is not: You won't be leading culture, capability-building or org design work; that sits with the Head of People. And on grievances, you're the first point of contact, not the final decision-maker: you'll escalate where needed.
What success looks like
Here's how you'll know you're winning, and how we'll know too.
- By day 30, you'll have met the team and our labour law consultant, learnt how payroll, attendance and compliance run today, shadowed a full payroll cycle and spent time on the shop floor.
- By day 90, you'll be running payroll independently with sign-off and zero errors, and the compliance tracker will be fully up to date.
- By month 6, every statutory filing will have gone in on time with no penalties, and F&F; settlements will be closing within agreed timelines.
- By the end of year 1, you'll have a monthly HR MIS live, at least two manual processes simplified or automated, and a clean audit outcome.
You'll thrive here if...
You really need:
- A graduate degree and 5–7 years in HR operations, including at least 2 years independently running payroll for 200+ employees
- Hands-on, current knowledge of Maharashtra statutory compliance: PF, ESIC, PT, LWF, gratuity, bonus and Shops and Establishments
- Experience calculating F&F; settlements end to end, and the ability to explain every line
- Strong Excel: VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivots, reconciliations and clean, auditable workings
- Fluency in English and Hindi, so you can explain a payslip to a machine operator as easily as you walk an auditor through a PF reconciliation
Bonus points if:
- You speak Marathi
- You have an MBA/PGDM in HR or a diploma in labour law
- You've worked with manufacturing, social enterprise or other blue-collar workforces
- You've used an HRIS or payroll software (e.g. Keka, greytHR, Zoho People)
- You're familiar with POSH compliance and audit or certification processes
You also:
treat a one-rupee variance as worth explaining, stay calm and patient with repeat questions, keep confidential data confidential, and spot a compliance deadline before anyone has to ask. The Tiny Miracles way: you treat everyone, from artisan to buyer, with the same respect. You're patient when teaching, honest when things go wrong, and you celebrate small wins (they add up).
Don't tick every box? Apply anyway. We hire for attitude and guide you with the rest.
The honest bit
We'd rather you hear this now than in month three.
- Month-end is non-negotiable. Payroll cut-offs and filing deadlines don't move, so the turn of each month is intense, and year-end bonus and annual returns add more.
- Resources are lean. We're a social enterprise, so you'll sometimes build the process before you get the tool. Some of what you'll run today lives in spreadsheets, and helping move it into proper systems is part of the job.
- The work is deeply human. Many of the people whose payslips you run are facing real challenges at home. A deduction explained clearly, or a settlement paid on time, matters a lot. That takes patience, and it's also the best part.
- Detail is the job. Much of this work is repeated every month and has to be right every time, while the Labour Codes keep shifting the rules underneath it. If reconciliations give you quiet satisfaction, you'll love it here.
What you get
- Work that matters, visibly. You'll see the families and products your work supports, not just a number on a dashboard.
- Real ownership. Your ideas don't wait in a queue of approvals. If it makes sense, we try it.
- Room to grow. Direct mentoring from the Head of People, exposure to policy work, and the chance to get involved in cross-functional projects and training workshops.
- The basics, done right. – Mediclaim provided for you and your immediate family
- A team that has your back. We eat lunch together on most days and Friday chill session is non-negotiable
