JOBPURPOSE: Smart pole development from software integration and building connected platform.
Develop and evolve the software layer of an integrated Smart Pole solution by translating application use cases into scalable features on a connected platform. Integrate and manage data from smart lighting, CCTV cameras, environmental sensors, EV chargers and digital LED display boards, enabling centralized monitoring, control, analytics, alerts and third-party system integration.
KEYRESPONSIBILITIES
• Own software requirements and application use cases for the Smart Pole connected platform, engaging stakeholders to convert operational and customer needs into user stories, functional specifications, workflows and acceptance criteria.
- Design, develop and enhance platform services, APIs and application modules for device onboarding, configuration, remote monitoring, control, alerts, event management, dashboards, reporting and fleet/device lifecycle management.
- Build and integrate software use cases for smart lighting (switching, dimming, schedules and energy monitoring), CCTV/video systems (device status, events and authorised integrations), environmental sensors (live readings, thresholds, trends and alerts), EV chargers (status, availability, energy/session data where supported) and digital LED displays (content/status integration where supported).
- Develop a unified device and asset model that maps pole, cabinet, controller and attached devices; supports device health, location, configuration, telemetry, alarms and service history.
- Integrate heterogeneous devices and third-party applications through APIs, SDKs, webhooks and protocol adapters; work with integration engineers to handle MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS, REST, WebSockets, Modbus, ONVIF/RTSP and other interfaces as required.
- Implement data ingestion, processing, storage and visualisation for telemetry and events, with suitable time-series/relational data stores, dashboards, reporting and export capabilities.
- Develop rule-based automation and event workflows, including threshold alerts, fault notifications, escalation, schedules and cross-device use cases, with auditability and configurable business rules.
- Integrate the platform with cloud/edge services, mobile/web applications, identity services, maps/GIS, video management, EV charging management and customer/city/enterprise systems as required.
- Design for scalability, availability, performance, maintainability and resilience; implement logging, monitoring, tracing,
exception handling, retry mechanisms, offline/poor-connectivity handling and recovery procedures.
- Apply secure software development practices, including role-based access control, authentication/authorisation, encryption in transit, secrets management, audit logs, secure API design, dependency scanning and remediation of vulnerabilities.
- Create and maintain automated unit, integration, API and regression tests; support system testing, UAT, field pilots, defect triage, root-cause analysis and production releases.
- Establish CI/CD and source-code management practices, code reviews, versioning, release notes, environment configuration and deployment/rollback procedures.
- Work with firmware, hardware, cloud, cybersecurity, QA, product management and field teams to resolve end-to-end issues and ensure consistent behaviour across devices and platform services.
- Prepare architecture and API documentation, data models, sequence diagrams, configuration guides, operational runbooks and user/administrator documentation.
- Support deployment, commissioning, customer demonstrations and post-deployment improvements; use field feedback and platform usage data to prioritise enhancements.
- Evaluate frameworks, libraries and technology partners; contribute to technical estimates, sprint planning, delivery tracking and continuous improvement.
EDUCATIONALQUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics/Telecommunication or a related discipline.
- Master’s degree or relevant specialisation in software engineering, cloud computing, IoT or data engineering is an advantage.
WORKEXPERIENCE
• 8–10 years of experience in software engineering, IoT platforms, connected products or cloud/application development.
- Proven experience building or extending a production software platform and integrating multiple device types and third-party systems.
- Experience converting business/application use cases into software features and delivering them through development, testing, deployment and support.
CERTIFICATIONS
Certifications in cloud platforms, software development, DevOps, IoT or cybersecurity are desirable but not mandatory.
PREFERRED/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages/frameworks (e.g., Java/Spring Boot, Python/FastAPI, Node.js/TypeScript or .NET) and API design.
- Practical experience with REST APIs, MQTT/event-driven architecture, authentication, databases, data modelling and integration patterns.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, containers (Docker), orchestration concepts, CI/CD and observability tools.
- Experience with frontend dashboards or web applications (e.g., React/Angular or equivalent) is an advantage.
- Understanding of IoT telemetry, device identity, firmware/software version tracking, OTA workflow integration and edge/cloud architectures.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, secure SDLC, OWASP guidance, access control, encryption and auditability.
- Ability to troubleshoot using logs, API clients, message brokers and protocol/network diagnostics.
- Smart city, street lighting, surveillance, EV charging, environmental monitoring or digital signage domain experience is preferred.
REPORTEES
May guide junior software engineers or coordinate project contributors; formal direct reportees to be defined based on team structure.
