Role Description The Librarian (School) is a full-time, in office role based at Orchids The International School in Bengaluru. This role involves managing the school library’s day-to-day operations, including organizing and maintaining physical and digital collections, cataloging new materials, and ensuring accurate records. The Librarian supports students and educators in locating resources, promotes reading and information literacy, and conducts age-appropriate library orientation and instructional sessions.





Responsibilities also include creating a welcoming and orderly learning environment, developing reading programs and displays, coordinating with teachers to support classroom projects, and enforcing library policies. The Librarian is expected to collaborate with school staff, participate in academic activities, and contribute to the overall educational experience of students.

Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of Library Science and Library Management, with experience in organizing collections and maintaining library systems.
- Practical experience in Library Services and Library Instruction to support students and educators with information access and reading habits.
- Familiarity with Metadata and basic cataloging standards for accurate classification and retrieval of resources.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science or related field from a recognized institution.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with children and collaborate with teaching staff.
- Comfort with using computers, library software, and digital resources; knowledge of educational and reference tools is an advantage.
- Prior experience in a school or academic library setting is preferred.
- Organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging library environment.
