About Astetva and this initiative

Astetva is building a verified, portable professional identity for India's non-physician healthcare workers: nurses, technicians and allied health professionals. Millions of them keep India's hospitals, clinics and homes running, yet their stories are rarely told.

We are launching a dedicated storytelling platform across Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn that brings out the unusual, moving and surprising human stories of healthcare workers from every corner of India. Think of the nurse who rows a boat to reach a flooded village, the lab technician who taught herself four languages to calm patients, or the ambulance crew that has delivered hundreds of babies on the road.

We are looking for the person who will build this platform from zero, own it end to end, and grow it into one of India's most loved storytelling communities.

Role summary

Title

Lead Story Researcher and Storyteller

Reports to

Founder, Astetva

Location

India (base city flexible/Bangalore), with frequent travel across states

Type

Full time

Team

Founding member of the storytelling unit; will work with a videographer and an editor and help hire them

You will be the creative head and the engine of the platform. You will find the stories, earn the trust of the people in them, shape each one into a short and powerful narrative, and see it through to publication and audience growth. In the early months you will do much of this yourself; over time you will build and lead a small team that runs at the same standard.

Key responsibilities

1. Vision and platform design

- Define the platform's identity: name, editorial voice, visual style, story formats and publishing rhythm.
- Set the editorial standards that every story must meet for accuracy, dignity and emotional truth.
- Build a 6 month and 12 month content and growth plan with clear targets.

2. Story discovery and research

- Build a steady pipeline of unusual healthcare worker stories from metros, small towns, tribal areas and remote regions.
- Develop sources across nursing colleges, hospitals, primary health centres, ambulance services, NGOs, professional associations and Astetva's own professional community.
- Set up and run a public story submission channel and screen every lead.
- Verify facts, dates, names and claims before any story moves to production.

3. Field production

- Plan and lead field shoots: logistics, travel, permissions, schedules and budgets.
- Conduct deep, empathetic interviews in person, often with people who have never been on camera.
- Direct the videographer on shot lists and visual storytelling; shoot on a phone or camera yourself when needed.
- Obtain written and recorded informed consent from every storyteller, and from hospitals or employers where filming takes place.

4. Storytelling and writing

- Turn hours of interviews into tight first person narratives, captions, carousels, reels scripts and long form YouTube pieces.
- Write in English and Hindi at publishable quality; work with translators for regional languages.

- Guide the editor through the cut so each piece lands its emotional moment in the first few seconds.

5. Publishing and audience growth

- Own the publishing calendar across Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.
- Track reach, saves, shares, watch time and follower growth, and use the data to sharpen what we tell and how.
- Engage the community in comments and DMs, and turn readers into story sources.
- Explore collaborations with creators, media outlets and healthcare institutions.

6. Team and operations

- Help hire, brief and manage the videographer and editor, and later freelancers and regional stringers.
- Manage the storytelling budget and equipment.
- Build simple, repeatable workflows from lead to published story.

7. Ethics and care

- Protect patient privacy at all times; no identifiable patient appears without consent.
- Present every institution and system fairly and respectfully; our stories celebrate people and build on what exists.
- Stay in touch with storytellers after publication and support them if a story draws unexpected attention.

Who you are

- An exceptional storyteller. You know how to find the one detail that makes a stranger's life unforgettable, and you can tell it in 150 words or 15 minutes.
- Deeply empathetic. People open up to you. You listen more than you speak, and you treat every story as a gift, not content.
- A founder at heart. You think like an entrepreneur: you see the whole picture, set your own goals, take ownership of results and do not wait to be told what to do.
- Highly creative. You bring fresh formats, angles and visual ideas, and you are not afraid to experiment.
- A visionary who executes. You can imagine the platform two years out, then plan, design, execute and deliver it week by week.
- Agile and self driven. You thrive in a young, fast moving startup, are comfortable with ambiguity, and keep your energy high on long field days.
- A confident, qualified presence. You carry yourself well, represent Astetva with credibility in hospitals, villages and boardrooms alike, and are comfortable appearing on camera when a story needs a host or narrator.
- Curious about healthcare. You care about the people who keep India's healthcare running and want to bring them the recognition they deserve.

Experience and qualifications

Required

- 6 or more years in human interest storytelling, documentary, journalism or digital content, with at least 2 years leading stories end to end from idea to publication.
- A portfolio of published human stories (video, written or both) that moved audiences, ideally with clear reach and engagement numbers.
- Proven experience growing a social media page, channel or series, preferably on Instagram and YouTube.
- Strong field interviewing skills,

including with first time, vulnerable or rural storytellers.
- Excellent writing in English and Hindi.
- Working knowledge of short form video: shot planning, vertical framing, reels structure and basic editing (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve or CapCut).
- Sound grasp of media ethics, informed consent and privacy.
- Willingness to travel extensively across India, often to remote areas.
- A bachelor's degree in journalism, mass communication, film, social sciences or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred

- Experience with documentary or factual brands such as National Geographic, Discovery, History TV18, or Indian storytelling platforms.
- Experience as a field or story producer on documentary, factual or branded content shows.
- Fluency in one or more regional languages, especially Malayalam and Kannada.
- Experience covering health, social impact or public health stories.
- Photography skills and an eye for strong still portraits.
- Experience managing small creative teams, freelancers and production budgets.
