Designed for Africans and the global diaspora, Superfan.ng combines engaging gameplay with meaningful educational content. The product aims to preserve, celebrate, and scale African cultural heritage through accessible, mobile-first learning. Team members contribute directly to building tools that connect learners worldwide to authentic African knowledge.

Role Description The Lead AI Engineer will design, build, and deploy AI systems that power Superfan.ng’s quiz, recommendation, and language-learning experiences. This full-time remote role involves leading the end-to-end development of machine learning models, including data collection, preprocessing, training, evaluation, and production deployment.

The person in this role will collaborate with product, engineering, and content teams to translate cultural and linguistic requirements into scalable AI solutions, particularly in the areas of NLP and personalization. Daily activities include architecting AI infrastructure, mentoring other engineers, reviewing code and model performance,



and ensuring responsible, inclusive AI practices. The Lead AI Engineer will also stay current with emerging AI research relevant to African languages and apply those advances to improve user engagement and learning outcomes.

Qualifications

- Robust foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, with experience designing and implementing scalable AI systems.
- Hands-on expertise in Neural Networks and Pattern Recognition, including building and optimizing deep learning models for real-world applications.
- Applied experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP), preferably with multilingual or low-resource languages, and text-based educational or cultural content.
- Proficiency with modern ML/AI tools and frameworks (e.g., Python, PyTorch or TensorFlow, cloud platforms, MLOps practices).
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects, mentor engineers, and collaborate effectively in remote, cross-functional teams.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Interest in or familiarity with African languages and cultures, and a commitment to inclusive, ethical AI development.
