A. Instrumentation installation and erection
- Supervise installation of field instruments, including pressure, temperature, flow and level transmitters, gauges, switches, and control valves.
- Verify instrument locations, mounting arrangements, accessibility, and process connections against P&IDs; and approved drawings.
- Supervise laying, dressing, glanding, termination, and testing of instrument cables.
- Inspect installation of cable trays, junction boxes, instrument tubing, impulse lines, and pneumatic connections.
B. Instrumentation for CBG process systems The engineer shall be familiar with instrumentation used in the following systems:
- HERBA/UASB anaerobic systems.
- Biogas collection, gas holders, and condensate removal systems.
- H₂S removal and biogas purification units.
- CO₂ separation and upgrading systems.
- Gas blowers, compressors, and gas dehydration units.
- CBG product gas analyzers and measurement, pressure regulation, and cascade filling at high pressure.
- Flares, gas detection, fire and gas systems, and emergency shutdown arrangements.
3. PLC, SCADA and automation
- Verify PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD and control panel installation and configuration.
- Review I/O lists, control narratives, cause-and-effect matrices, alarm lists and interlock logic.
- Conduct loop checking, functional testing, alarm verification and interlock testing.
- Coordinate with OEMs for PLC programming, communication protocols, FAT and SAT.
- Verify automatic and manual operating sequences for feed systems, digesters, gas purification, compressors and filling systems.
- Ensure protected shutdown logic and communication between package PLCs and the main plant control system.
4. Testing and commissioning
- Conduct calibration of all instruments using suitable calibrated test equipment.
- Perform continuity, insulation resistance, loop and functional tests, as applicable.
- Verify instrument ranges, set points, alarm limits, trip settings and control valve operation.
- Coordinate pre-commissioning, dry runs, wet commissioning, gas-in activities and performance trials.
- Prepare commissioning checklists, punch lists and instrument handover dossiers.
5. Operation and maintenance
- Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance of instruments and control systems.
- Troubleshoot instrument failures, unstable readings, control loops and PLC/SCADA communication faults.
- Maintain calibration schedules, maintenance logs, spare-parts inventories and instrument history records.
- Monitor critical process parameters and recommend corrective measures to improve plant reliability.
- Provide technical support during plant shutdowns, equipment replacement and process modifications.
6.
Safety and statutory compliance
- Ensure that instruments installed in hazardous areas have the appropriate certification and protection for the classified zone.
- Ensure compliance with permit-to-work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), gas testing and site HSE procedures.
These responsibilities are consistent with published CBG and industrial instrumentation job descriptions covering PLC/SCADA, field instruments, hazardous-area equipment, commissioning and maintenance. 7. Documentation and reporting The engineer shall maintain and submit:
- Instrument index and instrument datasheets.
- I/O list, cable schedule and loop diagrams.
- Instrument hook-up drawings and junction box schedules.
- Calibration certificates and loop-checking reports.
- PLC/SCADA testing and commissioning records.
- Daily progress reports, material reconciliation and pending-work lists.
- Preventive maintenance schedules, breakdown reports and handover documents.
