What You Will Own

· Own engineering execution health, delivery predictability, dependency resolution and recovery plans across all six pods; Leads retain pod-level commitments and implementation ownership.

· Manage, coach and evaluate six Engineering Leads; guide performance management, hiring, succession, staffing and development across their teams.

· Balance capacity across roadmap delivery, modernization, automation, quality and reliability within approved priorities and headcount.

· Serve as first management escalation for significant L3 incidents; mobilize engineering capacity, coordinate cross-pod recovery and ensure RCA actions and durable fixes are completed.

· Improve engineering practices and outcomes using lead time, escaped defects, change failure, rework, repeat incidents and automation effectiveness.

· Work with Principal and Staff Engineers to turn approved modernization, data and automation direction into achievable pod plans without assuming architecture authority.

· Partner with Product, Delivery, DevOps and Support on feasibility, dependencies, incident handoffs and engineering risks; provide consolidated execution visibility to the Head of Engineering.

What You Bring

· 12+ years in software engineering with substantial hands-on experience and 4+ years managing engineers or engineering leaders (proposed experience guide).

· Proven people leadership: coaching, performance decisions, development, hiring and building accountable technical leads.

· Experience running execution across multiple teams, resolving resource constraints, dependencies and complex delivery risks.

· Robust technical credibility in Java enterprise applications, Spring Boot, APIs, SQL, distributed systems, CI/CD and automated testing.

· Production engineering judgment,



including incident escalation, recovery coordination, root-cause analysis and reliability improvement.

· Ability to collaborate with Product and Delivery without taking over roadmap prioritization, commercial commitments or project coordination.

Role Boundaries

· Engineering Leads own their pods’ people, technical design, quality and delivery; the EM manages through Leads rather than assigning work directly to engineers.

· Principal and Staff Engineers retain architecture, data/platform, modernization and automation technical mandates.

· Product owns priorities; Delivery owns cross-functional program coordination; DevOps owns deployment/platform operations; Support owns L1/L2 qualification.

· L3 owns qualified diagnosis and incident coordination; owning capability pods retain permanent defect fixes. Critical decisions beyond EM authority escalate to Head of Engineering.





· After-hours escalation coverage requires an agreed rotation and backup; the EM is not presumed to be continuously on call.

Success in This Role

· Within 30 days: map pod capabilities, leaders, capacity, delivery risks, production escalations and baseline metrics.

· Within 60 days: establish one cross-pod execution review, Lead coaching cadence, dependency management and L3 escalation process.

· Within 90 days: demonstrate clearer ownership, faster dependency resolution, better incident follow-through and measurable quality or execution improvement.

· Over time: six pods operate predictably with fewer routine escalations to the Head of Engineering while modernization and reliability improve.

Visionet is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead engineering execution, people development and operational performance across five product capability pods and the Product Reliability/L3 pod. Our mature Java, WildFly, Hibernate and SQL Server platform is evolving toward Spring Boot, Angular and clearer service and data ownership.

You will manage six hands-on Engineering Leads, improve predictable delivery and engineering quality, and serve as the first management escalation contact for significant L3 and cross-pod issues. This is an engineering people-leadership role, not a project-management or status-reporting position..

You will define the target architecture, establish decision guardrails, and prove critical patterns with reference implementations. You will not act as a central approval queue. Engineering Leads retain pod delivery ownership, while you guide decisions that affect multiple domains, shared contracts, or the long-term platform shape.
