Embedded Systems & IoT Integration Engineer (ESP32 / Embedded SoCs)
Location: Hyderabad, India (on-site)
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Embedded Systems & IoT Integration Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of our product's electronics: developing and maintaining firmware, testing and troubleshooting microcontroller-based boards (primarily ESP32) from our manufacturing partner, and assembling and integrating the complete electronic system — including a Raspberry Pi–based controller — into the final product.
This is a hands-on product engineering role, not a desk-only firmware job. You will work across firmware, PCB-level debugging, wiring and assembly, and full-product testing, coordinating closely with our manufacturing partner and internal product team to ensure every unit ships correctly programmed, tested, and integrated.
Key Responsibilities
Firmware Development & Testing
- Develop, modify, and maintain firmware in embedded C/C++ for ESP32 and other microcontroller boards, including new features and refactoring as hardware revisions evolve.
- Flash, configure, and upgrade firmware on microcontroller-based boards; maintain firmware versions and release/testing records.
- Test firmware functionality end-to-end and verify communication between the microcontroller and connected sensors, actuators, and peripherals (GPIO, UART, I2C, SPI, Wi-Fi, BLE).
- Debug firmware issues independently and escalate to the wider team with explicit diagnostics when needed.
Hardware Testing & Troubleshooting
- Inspect and functionally test PCBs received from the contract manufacturer; identify defective components and manufacturing issues,
and feed findings back to the manufacturer.
- Troubleshoot power supply, GPIO, sensor, communication-interface, connector, and wiring faults down to component level.
- Use standard test equipment — multimeter, bench power supply, oscilloscope, logic analyzer — as required.
- Define and maintain a repeatable board-level (end-of-line) test process so every board is verified the same way.
Raspberry Pi & System Integration
- Set up, configure, and troubleshoot the Raspberry Pi–based controller in the product (Linux, Python scripts, GPIO/HAT peripherals such as motor drivers).
- Validate communication and coordination between the Raspberry Pi, microcontroller boards, and connected peripherals.
Product Assembly & Integration
- Assemble and integrate PCBs, sensors, displays, motors, cables, connectors, and power systems into the final mechanical product.
- Perform wiring, harness assembly, cable management, connector termination, and basic soldering.
- Test the fully assembled product and troubleshoot failures at the complete-product level, isolating issues across firmware, hardware, and wiring.
Required Skills & Experience
- 2–5 years in embedded systems, IoT, electronics product development, or hardware integration.
- Strong hands-on experience with ESP32, including flashing, configuring, testing, and deb
- Working proficiency in embedded C/C++ — able to read, modify, and write firmware, not only test it.
- Solid understanding of microcontrollers, GPIO, UART, I2C, SPI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE, and
- Ability to read circuit diagrams, schematics, and PCB layouts.
- Practical electronics troubleshooting experience, comfortable with a multimeter and othe
- Hands-on experience with soldering, wiring, connectors, and electronic product assembly.
- Experience integrating electronic boards into a complete physical product.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills; able to work independently and own a task end-to-end.
Good to Have
- Experience with other MCU platforms such as STM32, Nordic (nRF), RP2040, or similar.
- Experience with ESP-IDF, Arduino, or PlatformIO for embedded development.
- Basic Linux and Python skills, especially on Raspberry Pi or similar single-board computers.
- Experience with OTA firmware updates.
- Experience with MQTT, REST APIs, or cloud-connected IoT devices.
- Experience with sensors, displays, relays, DC motors/motor drivers, or other IoT periphe
- Experience working with PCB contract manufacturers and production/end-of-line testing.
- Familiarity with Git.
- Background in consumer electronics, smart devices, appliances, or similar physical products; rapid prototyping experience.
