Role Description The Assistant Manager – Ocean Freight Pricing & Booking is a full-time, in office role based in Chennai, responsible for managing end-to-end ocean freight pricing, routing, and booking activities for dangerous goods shipments. This position oversees rate sourcing from carriers and NVOCCs, prepares competitive quotations, and ensures accurate cost analysis and margin maintenance.

The role involves coordinating bookings, vessel schedules, and documentation in line with IATA DGR and IMDG regulations, while closely collaborating with operations, customer service, and compliance teams.

The Assistant

Manager will monitor market trends, maintain rate and contract databases, support key client accounts,



and proactively resolve shipment issues to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective transport. Daily tasks also include maintaining strong relationships with shipping lines and vendors, updating internal systems, and contributing to process improvements in ocean freight operations.

Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of ocean freight operations, pricing, booking procedures, and carrier coordination, ideally within dangerous goods logistics.
- Experience in freight forwarding, international shipping, and documentation compliance, including familiarity with IATA DGR and IMDG regulations.
- Proficiency in data analysis, cost calculation, and margin management using spreadsheets, TMS or ERP systems, and related logistics software.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills for working with shipping lines, vendors, and clients, with the ability to manage stakeholder expectations.
- Solid organizational and time-management abilities, including handling multiple bookings, deadlines, and priorities with attention to detail.
- Relevant academic background such as a degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, or a related field.
- Certifications or training in dangerous goods handling or shipping (e.g., IATA DGR/IMDG courses) are highly beneficial.
- Prior experience in hazmat/dangerous goods logistics or in a freight forwarding environment is an advantage.
