Roles & responsibilities
Develop, enhance, maintain, and support mainframe applications using COBOL.
Write, modify, and execute JCL (Job Control Language) for batch processing, job scheduling, and production workloads.
Design, access, and maintain VSAM datasets, including KSDS, ESDS, and RRDS.
Develop and optimize DB2 SQL queries, including SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE operations.
Work with DB2 tables, indexes, primary keys, foreign keys, and referential integrity.
Perform batch job monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolution of abends and production failures.
Analyze existing programs, understand business requirements, and implement application enhancements.
Perform unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and defect fixing.
Debug COBOL programs using tools such as Abend-AID, Xpediter, or Fault Analyzer, where available.
Analyze job logs, spool outputs, return codes,



and system messages to identify issues.
Optimize COBOL programs, JCL jobs, and DB2 queries to improve application performance.
Participate in code reviews, technical documentation, release management, and deployment activities.
Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, production support teams, and other developers.
Follow coding standards, change management procedures, and production release guidelines.
