About the RoleWe are looking for a skilled ROS 2 Robotics Simulation Engineer to design, model, simulate, and deploy autonomous mobile robot (AMR) systems in virtual environments. In this role, you will bridge the gap between theoretical robot design and physical execution by building robust URDF models, configuring physics simulations in Gazebo, and developing advanced localization, mapping, and navigation stacks using ROS 2.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture &
• Development: Design and implement modular ROS 2 packages, nodes, topics, services, and actions using Python and C++.
- Robot Modeling: Create accurate kinematic and agile robot models from scratch using URDF and modular Xacro macros.
- Simulation &
- Visualization: Set up and maintain realistic physics simulations using Gazebo (or Ignition/Gazebo Harmonic) and build 3D diagnostic interfaces in RViz2.
- Sensor &
- Controller Integration: Integrate and calibrate simulated sensors (LiDAR, IMUs, depth cameras) and configure ros2_control hardware interfaces and controllers.
- Autonomy &
- Navigation: Implement and fine-tune SLAM (SLAM Toolbox / Cartographer) for map creation and the Navigation2 (Nav2) stack for global path planning, obstacle avoidance, and autonomous navigation.
- Testing &
- CI/CD:
Validate software behaviors in simulation before deploying code to physical hardware prototypes.Required Qualifications &
- Technical Skills
- Operating Systems: Strong proficiency in Linux/Ubuntu (Ubuntu 22.04 / 24.04 LTS), shell scripting, and command-line tools.
- Middleware: Hands-on experience with ROS 2 (Humble, Iron, or Jazzy distributions), colcon build systems, and workspace management.
- Modeling Languages: Proficient in writing and debugging URDF and Xacro description files.
- Simulation Toolchains: Working knowledge of Gazebo physics simulation, plugins (ros_gz_bridge), and RViz visualization.
- Navigation Frameworks: Familiarity with the Nav2 stack, costmaps, behavior trees, and 2D/3D SLAM algorithms.
- Programming Languages: Strong foundation in Python and/or C++ for ROS 2 node development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience transitioning code from simulation to physical hardware (micro-ROS, ESP32, or Linux single-board computers like Raspberry Pi/Jetson).
- Experience with differential drive, omnidirectional, or robotic arm kinematics.
- Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
