Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on, execution-oriented Mechanical 3D Design, Drawing & Manufacturing Specialist who bridges the gap between 3D CAD modeling and shop-floor manufacturing reality.
Whether you are a seasoned veteran (10–15+ years) with deep machine design, manufacturing and testing experience or an ambitious engineer (4–5+ years) dedicated to mastering high-precision CAD, strict GD&T;, and DFM/DFA, manufacturing expertise this role is built for practitioners who take pride in creating flawless, manufacturing-ready designs.
This is not a purely theoretical or management-only position. Success means delivering "first-time-right" mechanical drawings and 3D models that go straight to production with zero confusion, minimal ECOs (Engineering Change Orders), and zero shop-floor rework.
Key Responsibilities:
High-Precision 2D Detailing &
- GD&T; Standard Enforcement
- Create, review, and approve high quality production-ready 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D SolidWorks assemblies/parts.
- Enforce strict GD&T; standards (ASME Y14.5 / ISO), defining accurate datum reference frames, geometric controls (form, orientation, runout, location),surface finish callouts and all other features.
- Perform detailed worst-case and Root Sum Squares (RSS) tolerance stack-up analyses to guarantee smooth assembly, inter-part fitment, and interchangeability without requiring shop-floor rework.
- Conduct thorough redline drawing markups and technical check-offs on drawings created by junior engineers to catch missing dimensions, improper tolerances, or unachievable callouts prior to release.
- Tailor detailing strategies to the specific manufacturing process—for example, bend allowances/deductions for sheet metal, machining allowances for castings/forgings, weld symbols, heat treatment notes, and coating/plating thicknesses.
- Standardize drawing layouts, title blocks, section/detail views, hardware callouts, and fully itemized Bills of Materials (BOMs) across all engineering projects.
- Ensure all 2D drawings maintain clean parametric relationships with underlying 3D SolidWorks models and configurations, avoiding broken references, manual override dimensions, or revision mismatches.
DFM / DFA Optimization & • Manufacturing Support
- Perform, check, and formally document DFM/DFA analyses across diverse manufacturing processes (sheet metal, CNC, weldments, castings, plastics, etc), taking complete ownership of your own designs and those of junior engineers.
- Drive quality control by checking 3D, dwgs, etc, rigorously verifying that sound engineering logic, practical constraints, and manufacturability are present in every design before release.
- Review and optimize Bill of Materials (BOMs), hardware selection, and raw material utilization to reduce manufacturing costs. Prepare and review EBOM’s & • MBOM’s.
- Act as the technical bridge between design and fabrication—troubleshooting prototype fitments, assembly issues, and shop-floor challenges.
CAD Ownership & • Engineering Calculations
- Build robust, parametric 3D parts, complex assemblies, and configurations in SolidWorks.
- Utilize SolidWorks PDM/PLM systems for version control, revision tracking, and release processes.
- Conduct first-principles engineering calculations (strength, thermal, flow) and basic static/thermal simulations (FEA) to validate design intent prior to drawing release.
- Establish standard CAD modeling practices, template structures, reusable seed files, and configuration rules to minimize modeling errors and streamline turn-around time across the engineering team.
- Maintain clean model references, parent-child relations, and lightweight assembly structures so drawings and models remain stable, editable, and bug-free when handed over to team members or updated in future design cycles.
Technical Quality & • Mentorship
- Maintain zero-defect drawing standards to eliminate drawing revisions and shop-floor clarification calls.
- Lead rigorous technical design and peer reviews, actively identifying potential manufacturing constraints, documenting decisions, and establishing risk mitigation strategies before production release.
- Guide, train, and mentor junior mechanical engineers and draftspersons on drafting best practices, standard callouts, advanced GD&T; application, and practical engineering execution
- Break down complex engineering projects into clear, manageable tasks and workflows, establishing robust engineering processes and frameworks to elevate the team's overall productivity and quality.
- Ensure all engineering deliverables—including release packages, specifications, calculation notes, and markups—are meticulously organized, audit-ready, and easy for cross-functional teams to use.
- Act as the ultimate technical gatekeeper for quality,
taking feedback from shop-floor failures or prototype fitment issues and translating them into systemic improvements in the design team's practices.
Candidate Qualifications & • Skill Requirements
- Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech or any level in Mechanical Engineering (Practical manufacturing exposure is prioritized over degree level).
- Experience Level:
- 10 to 15+ years of deep, hard-earned experience within machine building, precision fabrication units, industrial equipment manufacturing, or Special Purpose Machinery (SPM) environments.
- Extensive background working in MSMEs or smaller engineering companies where engineers wear multiple hats and practical, cost-effective engineering decisions dictate project success.
- Capable of anticipating manufacturing failures before a drawing is released and acting as the go-to technical authority for resolving complex field issues, assembly roadblocks, and manufacturing defects independently.
- We highly encourage veteran Mechanical Diploma holders with extensive, execution-driven manufacturing experience to apply, prioritizing a track record of building successful physical products over theoretical degrees.
- Core CAD Proficiency: Advanced SolidWorks (CSWP required • CSWE or topic certifications in Drawings, Sheet Metal, Weldments, or Surfacing are strongly preferred).
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Deep familiarity with machining allowances, bend deductions/allowances, welding symbols, fitment classes (ISO fits), and shop-floor inspection equipment.
- Communication Skills: Robust verbal and written English communication skills; capable of clearly explaining complex technical constraints to international clients and suppliers.
- Remote Work / Hybrid Infrastructure: Must have a highly reliable internet connection and a distraction-free home office setup capable of handling heavy CAD workloads.
- Familiarity with standard calculation tools (Excel, Mathcad, etc.) and experience pushing BOMs into ERP/MRP systems is a strong plus.
- Working Hours: Must be comfortable working in the 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST shift to align with global project requirements.
- Portfolio Requirements: 2 to 3 PDF samples of complex 2D manufacturing drawings created by the candidate. Drawings must show GD&T; callouts, section/detail views, surface finish symbols, tolerance callouts, and title blocks.
Benefits:
- 5 lakh personal health insurance cover
- Performance based incentive program with upto 24% monthly bonus.(Implementation in process. Terms and conditions apply)
- Rs. 1000/- reimbursement on gym membership and other regular fitness activities
- Competitive Compensation: Receive recognition and reward for your expertise and contributions.
- Impactful Projects: Engage in work that supports clean energy, sustainable design, and environmental innovation.
