A Primavera P6 job (commonly titled P6 Planner, Project Scheduler, or Planning Engineer) focuses on building, maintaining, and analyzing complex project schedules using Oracle Primavera P6 software to ensure engineering, construction, or infrastructure projects finish on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule Development & Maintenance: Build and update master project schedules, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), and baselines in Oracle Primavera P6.
- Critical Path & Risk Analysis: Perform Critical Path Method (CPM) calculations, spot scheduling bottlenecks, and evaluate project delays or risks.
- Resource & Cost Optimization: Manage labor, equipment allocation, and resource leveling/loading across multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Progress Tracking & Reporting: Generate daily/monthly dashboards, Gantt charts, and variance/earned value reports for stakeholders and clients.
- Claims & Delay Analysis: Assist with Time Impact Analysis (TIA), Extension of Time (EOT) claims, and recovery schedules.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate directly with site execution, procurement, engineering, and tendering teams.
- Major Key Function:
- Prepare and update project schedules in Primavera P6.
- Monitor progress and prepare planning reports.
- Coordinate with site teams to track activities and timelines.
- Plan manpower, equipment and material requirements.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- Experience: Typically ranges from 5 to 10+ years in project control, planning, and scheduling (varying by junior, mid, or lead levels).
- Software Proficiency: Advanced hands-on mastery of Oracle Primavera P6 (EPPM/PPM), complemented by tools like MS Project, Excel, Power BI, and SAP.
- Certifications (Preferred): PMP, PMI-SP (Scheduling Professional), or PMI-RMP (Risk Management Skilled).
