Role Purpose The PLM team is building strong in-house technical ownership of the Windchill platform. We are looking for a hands-on Windchill PLM Development Lead to:
- Own technical delivery of customizations, workflows, business rules, and PLM-SAP integration.
- Lead MPMLink enablement and release automation.
- Reduce dependence on external partners through effective technical governance and knowledge transfer.
The role will work closely with the PLM team, engineering and manufacturing functions, SAP and infrastructure teams, and implementation partners. Varrocs guiding principle is to use standard Windchill functionality first and customize only when justified, controlled, and upgrade safe.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Design
- Translate approved functional requirements into scalable, maintainable, and upgrade-compatible technical designs.
- Assess feasibility, performance, security, integration, and upgrade impact.
- Evaluate standard Windchill capability before proposing extensions or customizations.
Windchill Development
- Build and maintain PDMLink customizations, including workflows and robots, listeners, validators, Data Utilities, form processors, OIRs, lifecycles, business rules, reports, loaders, and UI components.
- Develop and enhance Change Management processes covering ECR, ECO, ECN, deviations, waivers, release workflows, approval routing, and escalations.
PLM-SAP Integration
- Support and improve PLM-SAP integration through ESI, REST/SOAP services, or middleware.
- Troubleshoot interfaces, resolve failed transactions, validate mappings, and improve data-synchronization reliability.
MPMLink Enablement
- Contribute to MPMLink and EBOM-MBOM initiatives, including plant-specific MBOMs, manufacturing structures, process plans, and related integration requirements.
Vendor Governance and Handover
- Review partner-developed code, technical designs, documentation, build and deployment instructions, rollback procedures, and test evidence.
- Ensure complete source-code handover, knowledge transfer, and closure of technical gaps.
DevOps and Release Discipline
- Establish Git practices, branching and tagging standards, build automation in Azure DevOps, source-to-build traceability, and controlled deployment across Dev, QA, Pre-Prod, and Production.
Quality and Technical Debt
- Perform technical RCA, debugging, code review, SQL and API optimization, performance improvement, and release hypercare.
- Assess upgrade impact and maintain the technical debt and remediation register.
Capability Building
- Mentor developers and support engineers, maintain reusable technical assets, and grow internal Windchill capability.
Required Skills
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on Windchill PDMLink customization, configuration, and development experience.
- Strong experience with Windchill 12.x; exposure to Windchill 13.x is an advantage.
- Core Java, J2EE, JSP/JSPF, JavaScript, XML, REST APIs, web services, and scripting.
- Windchill APIs, including QuerySpec, persistence, Info*Engine, and Windchill UI frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with workflows, events and listeners, validators, Data Utilities, form processors, lifecycles, OIRs, and Windchill Business Rules.
- SQL on Oracle or SQL Server, including queries, joins, indexes, sequences, functions, procedures, and query tuning.
- Experience with SAP integration through ESI, REST/SOAP services, or middleware.
- Functional understanding of BOM, Part, Document, Change, Lifecycle, Classification, CAD, Publishing, and Visualization processes.
- Git and Azure DevOps, or an equivalent CI/CD toolchain.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- Solid debugging, documentation, communication,
and stakeholder-management skills.
Good to Have
- MPMLink and EBOM-MBOM experience.
- Classification, IBAs, and enumerations.
- SUMA or Supplier Collaboration.
- ThingWorx Foundation or Navigate.
- Windchill upgrades, CPS updates, rehost, or data-migration experience.
- Automotive-domain knowledge, including APQP, PPAP, engineering change, and plant-specific BOMs.
- AI-assisted development tools used with appropriate technical review and governance.
Role Success Measures
- Quality and on-time delivery of Windchill enhancements.
- Reduction in production defects and workflow failures.
- Improved PLM-SAP interface reliability and faster failed-transaction resolution.
- Compliance with technical-design, code-review, source-control, and release-governance standards.
- Reduction in technical debt and dependence on external partners.
- Successful vendor code handover and internal knowledge transfer.
- Improved build, deployment, and release traceability across PLM environments.
Why This Role
- Technical ownership of an enterprise PLM platform during a multi-year transformation.
- Direct influence on solution architecture, development standards, release discipline, and engineering ways of working across sites.
- Exposure to PLM-SAP integration, MPMLink, Change Management, DevOps automation, and an upcoming Windchill upgrade.
- Opportunity to build Varrocs internal Windchill technical capability and reusable solution framework.
Who Can Apply This opportunity is open to internal employees with relevant hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Windchill customization, configuration, or development.
- Java/J2EE enterprise applications.
- PLM or engineering applications.
- ERP (SAP, or enterprise-system integration)
Candidates should demonstrate strong technical problem-solving skills, an understanding of software-development practices, and the ability to work with business teams, infrastructure teams, SAP teams, and implementation partners.
