ROLE PURPOSE

RightWalk is building a Mission Mode + Structured Discipline + Earned Flexibility culture — and culture is not managed by decree. The Head – People & Culture will be the institutional architect of how people experience RightWalk: how they are hired, onboarded, developed, evaluated, recognised, and when necessary, exited. With an HR Manager now in place handling operations, this role is the strategic layer above

— owning organisational design, performance culture, leadership development, and the values infrastructure that makes iHERO real in daily work. This is a builder role: most systems don't yet exist at the standard we need.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- People strategy and organisation design
- Own RightWalk's people strategy — talent acquisition, retention, development, and succession planning — aligned to the organisation's growth
- Support role clarity, reporting lines, spans of control and hiring prioritisation.
- Partner with leadership to prevent structure from becoming decorative furniture.
- Manage the HR Manager's work and provide strategic direction — ensure HR operations are reliable and qualified.
- Performance and accountability systems
- Design and implement a performance management system that is fair, consistent, and genuinely used — not a box-ticking exercise.
- Strengthen OKRs, performance reviews, feedback systems and role scorecards.
- Partner with the Director – Founder's Office and MD (when hired) on OKR cascades, performance reviews, and leadership team health.

- Ensure managers are trained to review performance fairly and consistently.
- Build a culture where accountability is not confused with personal attack.
- Support state and field HR needs — ensure that PMU and GDN hiring is systematic, ethical, and values-aligned.
- Leadership development and manager capability
- Design manager training, leadership coaching and capability-building systems.
- Support senior and middle managers to lead teams, give feedback and manage conflict.
- Build second-line leadership depth across HQ and states.
- Build the organisation's learning and development architecture — onboarding programmes, role- specific training, leadership development for senior staff.

Culture and employee experience

- Own culture stewardship — translate RightWalk's values (iHERO) into observable behaviours, recognition systems, and accountability mechanisms.
- Support onboarding, town halls, team rituals and internal communication.
- Build employee experience touchpoints: town halls, feedback mechanisms, grievance redressal, and wellbeing systems.
- Address burnout, conflict, disengagement and misalignment with maturity.
- HR governance and policy
- Oversee HR Manager and ensure recruitment, onboarding, leave, contracts,

documentation and compliance are clean.
- Review HR policies, grievance mechanisms, POSH, disciplinary processes and employee lifecycle systems.
- Ensure compliance with all labour laws and HR statutory requirements — in coordination with the Finance & Compliance function.
- Ensure people decisions are documented, fair and legally sound.
- Design and implement the compensation and benefits framework — ensuring it is competitive within velopment sector and internally equitable.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

- Experience: 12–18 years in HR or OD, with at least 5 years in a strategic or leadership HR role. Prior experience in the development sector, social enterprise, or a mission-driven organisation is strongly preferred.
- Builder: Proven ability to build people systems from scratch — not just maintain existing ones.
- OD: Strong OD capability — can diagnose organisational dynamics, design interventions, and facilitate leadership team alignment.
- Culture: Track record of building performance cultures — not just running appraisal cycles, but making accountability real.
- Character: Empathetic but clear — can hold the tension between caring for people and holding high expectations.
- Complexity: Familiarity with multi-state, multi-level organisations — including field staff, state teams, and HQ leadership simultaneously.
- Sector: Experience with development sector compensation benchmarking and FCRA/labour law compliance is a plus.Department:
