Deputy Manager Engineering & Maintenance

Position Summary The Deputy Manager Engineering & Maintenance is responsible for leading and directing the plant maintenance operations, ensuring maximum equipment uptime, operational safety, and continuous 24/7 manufacturing functionality across shifts. Reporting to the Head of Department / Operations Management, this role oversees the execution of electrical, mechanical, and thermal/utility maintenance, shift planning, workforce management, emergency breakdown response, and overtime compliance.

Key Responsibilities & Scope of Work

1. Departmental Leadership & Shift Management

- Lead, supervise, and coordinate the Engineering & Maintenance team across rotational shifts (A, B, C shifts and General Shift) to ensure uninterrupted plant operation.
- Prepare, implement, and monitor weekly and monthly shift rosters and work allocation schedules for all mechanical, electrical, and utility staff.
- Conduct capacity planning and resource allocation to address shift coverage gaps and manage absenteeism effectively.

2. Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance Oversight

- Electrical Systems: Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for plant electrical systems, including plant lighting, EOT cranes, UPS systems,



APFC panels, capacitor panels, cable laying, and frit vibrators.
- Mechanical & Thermal Equipment: Guide repairs and preventive maintenance on core production equipment, such as Furnaces/Kilns, screw feeders, Ball Mills, Batch House Mixers, cooling tower pumps, shafts, and Grit machines.
- Troubleshooting & Technical Support: Directly supervise engineers and technicians during complex electrical or mechanical breakdowns, conducting root cause analysis to eliminate recurring equipment failures.

3. Breakdown Control & Operational Continuity

- Ensure rapid response to unplanned emergency breakdowns in critical operational units (Furnaces, Batch House, Laboratory, and Grit Plant).
- Manage on-call schedules and emergency call-outs during off-hours or night shifts to maintain plant productivity.

4. Department Cost Control

- Track and regulate daily and monthly overtime (OT) usage, ensuring all OT hours are justified with explicit activity descriptions and breakdown logs.
- Analyze root causes of excessive overtime, align with company shift policies, and propose strategic staffing solutions (e.g., additional recruitment requirements) to optimize labor costs.




- Maintain complete data records and shift logs for internal audits.
- Drive overall department cost control by optimizing preventive maintenance schedules to reduce equipment failure expenses and streamlining manpower utilization across operations.

5. Safety, Environment & Utility Management

- Ensure strict compliance with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), machine guarding, and plant safety standards during maintenance execution.
- Supervise the operation and upkeep of utility equipment, such as Diesel Generators (DG), cooling towers, and continuous power/gas infrastructure.

Qualifications & Key Requirements

- Education: Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 8–12 years of hands-on experience in engineering and plant maintenance within high-volume continuous manufacturing industries (preferably Ceramic Raw Materials / Frits / Chemical processing).

- Technical Skills:
- Strong expertise in electrical troubleshooting, motor drives, control panels, and mechanical overhaul.
- Working knowledge of furnace/kiln maintenance, material handling equipment (screw feeders, vibrators, mills), utility systems, and extensive PLC automation expertise.
- Experience with shift rostering, preventive maintenance scheduling, and OT compliance management.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, emergency decision-making, team coordination, crisis management, problem-solving, cross-functional communication, conflict resolution, vendor management, adaptability under pressure, and strategic thinking.
