The candidate will be responsible for optimizing breeding performance, improving colony productivity, conducting scientific experiments, developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintaining biosecurity, and supporting the scale-up of insect breeding and production systems.

The ideal candidate should have practical knowledge of entomology, insect physiology, insect reproduction, insect mass rearing, controlled-workplace breeding, and scientific data analysis.

Key Responsibilities

1. BSF Breeding and Life Cycle Management

- Manage the complete Black Soldier Fly life cycle, from egg and larval stages through pupation, adult emergence, and subsequent generations.
- Monitor insect development, survival rates, colony health, and breeding performance.
- Maintain healthy and productive BSF colonies.

2. Reproduction, Mating and Egg Production

- Monitor adult mating behaviour, oviposition, egg laying, egg collection, and hatching rates.
- Identify factors affecting reproductive efficiency and egg production.
- Implement suitable measures to improve egg yield, hatchability, and breeding consistency.

3. Insect Mass Rearing and Colony Management

- Manage insect breeding and mass-rearing operations under controlled environmental conditions.
- Monitor environmental parameters affecting insect development and reproduction.
- Optimize rearing practices to improve productivity, survival, and colony performance.

4.

Breeding Experiments and Research

- Design and conduct experiments to evaluate breeding performance and colony productivity.
- Analyse experimental results and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Apply scientific methods to improve reproductive efficiency and maintain colony consistency.

5. SOP Development and Production Scale-Up

- Develop, implement, and standardize SOPs for BSF breeding, egg collection, hatching, insect rearing, and colony maintenance.
- Support the scale-up of breeding operations from routine rearing to larger production systems.
- Ensure consistent and repeatable breeding processes.

6. Biosecurity, Hygiene and Quality Control

- Maintain colony hygiene, biosecurity, and insect health standards.
- Identify risks related to colony contamination, mortality, and inconsistent breeding performance.
- Follow established operational and quality control procedures.

7. Documentation and Data Analysis

- Maintain accurate records of egg production, hatching rates, insect development, colony performance, and experimental results.
- Prepare technical reports and maintain breeding and production data.
- Use data-driven analysis to identify trends and improve operational efficiency.

8. Team Coordination and Training

- Train and guide technical staff in insect breeding, mass rearing, egg collection, and colony management.
- Coordinate with research, breeding, and production teams.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs and established operating procedures.
