Job Description (JD) – Fitter, Cast House

Location: Jharsuguda, Odisha
Qualification: ITI – Fitter Trade
Experience: 5 Years and Above
Department: Operations & Maintenance (O&M;) – Cast House

1. Job Purpose

To carry out mechanical maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of Cast House equipment in an aluminium smelter, ensuring safe, reliable, and uninterrupted plant operations.

2. Key Responsibilities

- Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment installed in the Cast House.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain pumps, gearboxes, bearings, motors, couplings, valves, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and associated mechanical assemblies.
- Attend breakdowns of casting machines, conveyors, cooling systems, tilting mechanisms, and other Cast House equipment.
- Carry out dismantling, fitting, alignment, assembly, and replacement of mechanical components.
- Perform bearing replacement, lubrication, shaft alignment, and inspection of rotating equipment.
- Identify mechanical faults, investigate recurring breakdowns, and support root cause analysis.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and assembly diagrams.
- Coordinate with shift engineers, operators, electricians, and other maintenance personnel for timely equipment restoration.
- Ensure the availability and proper use of tools, tackles, and maintenance spares.
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules and maintain equipment history and maintenance records.
- Comply with plant safety procedures, including Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), work-at-height precautions, and hot-work requirements, wherever applicable.
- Maintain good housekeeping and follow 5S practices in the workplace.
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment abnormalities, and potential failures to the reporting supervisor.

3. Required Technical Skills

- Strong practical knowledge of mechanical fitting, assembly, and maintenance.




- Hands-on experience with industrial mechanical equipment in an aluminium plant, Cast House, steel plant, or other heavy industrial environment.
- Knowledge of bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes, pumps, valves, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to use vernier calipers, micrometers, dial gauges, torque wrenches, and other fitting tools.
- Basic understanding of equipment alignment, clearances, tolerances, lubrication, and mechanical drawings.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical failures and execute maintenance jobs independently as per instructions.

4. Qualification and Experience

- ITI in Fitter Trade from a recognized institute.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in industrial mechanical maintenance.
- Experience in aluminium smelter Cast House maintenance will be preferred.
- Experience in shift maintenance, breakdown handling, and preventive maintenance is desirable.

6. Reporting To

Shift Engineer / Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor / O&M; Engineer.

- Quality and timeliness of maintenance work.
- Compliance with plant safety standards and maintenance procedures.
- Proper maintenance of tools, equipment, and records.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to ₹25,000.00 per month
