About the Role
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern with strong engineering fundamentals and an interest in spacecraft design and analysis. The intern will support mechanical engineering activities related to structures, thermal engineering, and structural dynamics for spacecraft and payload systems. The role is suitable for someone who understands the basics well, can perform engineering calculations, and is willing to learn simulation tools and spacecraft-specific design practices.
Key Responsibilities
• Support mechanical design and analysis of spacecraft structures and payloads.
• Perform basic structural calculations for:
• Stress
• Deflection
• Loads
• Factors of safety
• Support finite-element modelling and structural simulations.
• Assist with thermal analysis of spacecraft components and assemblies.
• Understand and work with:
• Conduction
• Radiation
• Thermal expansion
• Temperature gradients
• Support thermo-structural and thermo-elastic analysis.
• Assist with structural dynamics activities such as:
• Modal analysis
• Natural frequency estimation
• Vibration analysis
• Launch load assessment
• Work with materials commonly used in spacecraft, including:
• Aluminium
• Titanium
• CFRP
• Honeycomb sandwich structures
• Support evaluation of joints, interfaces, bolts, adhesives, and mounting concepts.
• Perform hand calculations to verify simulation results.
• Assist in CAD preparation and simplification for analysis.
• Review simulation results and identify whether the results are physically reasonable.
• Prepare simple engineering reports and documentation. Requirements Required Knowledge Good understanding of core Mechanical Engineering subjects:
