Overview Test Automation Engineer (Playwright & JavaScript/TypeScript) Responsibilities
Experience:
3 to 5 Years Primary Tech Stack: JavaScript / TypeScript, Python, Playwright, REST APIs, Git, CI/CD
• Custom Code Development: Design, write, and maintain modular JavaScript/TypeScript and Python functions that interface directly with Playwright’s core API (page, browserContext, locator)
• Edge-Case Automation: Resolve complex web interactions including shadow DOMs, nested iFrames, dynamic canvas elements, and custom web components using programmatic fallback scripts
• API & Storage Interception: Write custom scripts to bypass UI bottlenecks using Playwright’s API request context, local/session storage injection (addInitScript), and network route interception (pageroute)
• Framework Architecture & Reusability: Package low-level Playwright execution routines into reusable, well-documented, clean functions with robust exception handling for non-technical QA members
• API Automation & Integration: Build and maintain scalable REST API automation suites using Playwright’s native APIRequestContext, handling dynamic payload generation, status assertion, schema validation, and header/authentication setup
• Hybrid Web & API Testing: Implement hybrid UI/API test workflows—leveraging backend REST endpoints for rapid pre-test state setup, database seeding, and post-test cleanup to eliminate brittle, slow UI setup steps
• CI/CD Integration: Integrate, run, and optimize test execution across headful/headless runner nodes in continuous integration pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker)
• Code Reviews & Quality: Conduct code reviews for custom scripts, ensuring adherence to JavaScript ES6+ and Python best practices and asynchronous programming standards Qualifications
• Engineering degree or equivalent.
• LLM & AI Integration: Familiarity with calling LLM APIs (eg, OpenAI API, LangChain) for prompt engineering, code generation, structured JSON outputs, or intent parsing
• Experience building or maintaining custom plugins, keywords, or parsers for BDD or Keyword-Driven framework engines
• Experience querying project management APIs (eg, Jira REST API) or pushing test/defect metrics to reporting tools like Power BI or Allure
• Familiarity with containerized execution environments (Dockerized Jenkins agents) Essential skills
• Programming Languages: 3+ years of robust experience in JavaScript / TypeScript (ES6+) and Python, with proficiency in asynchronous programming (async/await, Promises)
• Playwright Core Expertise: 2+ years of hands-on experience using Playwright for web and API automation
• Robust API Testing: Strong, practical experience in automated API testing using Playwright's request module, Postman, or HTTP client libraries; hands-on knowledge of JSON schema validation, JWT/OAuth authentication handling, and API response parsing
• DOM & Browser Runtime Context: Proven ability to manipulate browser runtimes using pageevaluate(), pageaddInitScript(), dynamic locator strategies, and network route interception
• Version Control: Proficiency with Git workflows (branching, code reviews, PR workflows)
• Must possess a deep understanding of core programming fundamentals, DOM manipulation, and Playwright APIs without relying on AI code-generation tools Desired skills Primary Tech Stack: JavaScript / TypeScript, Python, Playwright, REST APIs, Git, CI/CD Experience
